One of the most popular TV shows released in 2022, FX/Hulu's The Bear proves that restaurant work is messy, hard, and endlessly fascinating. Carmy Berzatto is desperately trying to make his late brother's Chicago restaurant The Original Beef of Chicagoland a success. And that's definitely a tall order considering everything that keeps going wrong. Jeremy Allen White is amazing as Carmy. And Ebon Moss-Bachrach delivers a fantastic performance as Richie Jerimovich, a passionate character who was close to Carmy's brother.
To say that Carmy and Richie have a difficult relationship would be an understatement. They both want to make a living doing what they love. However, they have trouble finding common ground. Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach worked closely together on The Bear and brought these great characters to life. But did they actually get along?
What Did Ebon Moss-Bachrach Say About His The Bear Co-Star Jeremy Allen White?
Jeremy Allen White's comments on being an actor are always interesting and smart. He thinks really carefully about the career that he has had. And his co-star Ebon Moss-Bachrach is just as thoughtful when reflecting on The Bear. In some interviews, Moss-Bachrach has shared how he really feels about Jeremy Allen White. And it sounds like he thinks his co-star is an incredible actor who is also a good person.
When talking about filming The Bear with The Face, Moss-Bachrach said some really nice things about his co-star. When asked "Does Jeremy Allen White have Main Character Syndrome in real life?" Moss-Bachrach said, "What do you mean by that? Like he’s starring in his own movie? Ha ha ha, how can I answer that question, man? I gotta go back and work with him!"
Moss-Bachrach continued to The Face, "No, he doesn’t. He’s lovely. I guess maybe sometimes you can catch him looking at himself in a reflection from a store window, getting lost in his own eyes… No, not really."
It sounds like The Bear actors have mutual respect for each other. Ebon Moss-Bachrach definitely admires Jeremy Allen White's acting abilities.
In an interview with Deadline, Moss-Bachrach said that he would laugh during scenes with Matty Matheson, but White would be able to keep a straight face. Moss-Bachrach said, "It happens sometimes, but I’m proud of us. Jeremy’s a pro. He doesn’t laugh too much."
In the same interview, Ebon Moss-Bachrach called White a pal, which suggests that they bonded while filming the popular series. When asked if people recognize him everywhere that he goes in Chicago, Bachrach said, "I can walk down the street without being mobbed. I can’t say the same for my young friend Jeremy."
Ebon Moss-Bachrach often mentions Jeremy Allen White in interviews. There is nothing to suggest that the two had a tough time filming The Bear. It seems that they have a good working relationship and that they got along off-set, too.
Redditor @mymorningbowl shared in the spring of 2023 that they were at a restaurant in Chicago that The Bear actors were dining at. According to this post, the actors seemed to be having a great time.
The fan wrote, "I sat at a table across from Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach at dinner tonight in Chicago!
I was star-struck but didn’t bother them. they seemed to be really enjoying their meal and each other’s company, and they were incredibly kind to all of the staff, very cool night all around."
Carmy and Richie may have issues with each other, but it's nice to hear that the actors portraying these characters got along. It seems likely that by the end of season 2 of The Bear, Carmy and Richie might be kinder to each other. But since they are both grieving the tragic loss of Carmy's brother and trying to keep the restaurant afloat, there's a lot of stress for them to deal with.
What Did Jeremy Allen White Say About The Bear Co-Star Ebon Moss-Bachrach?
Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri seem to be close, which makes sense since their characters, Carmy and Sydney Adamu, bond while working at The Original Beef of Chicagoland. Sydney is a young chef who is not only talented in the kitchen but also brilliant at organizing and planning.
These are skills that Carmy desperately needs to learn. But since he doesn't feel that he has any time in his work day, Sydney takes it upon herself to set up a better system for the restaurant. And Carmy definitely appreciates that.
In a joint interview with Vanity Fair, White and Edebiri's friendship was on display. White praised Edebiri but also talked about Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Based on what he said, the two seem to be fairly close. And they seem to have a playful friendship.
White said during the interview that Moss-Bachrach will message him about some of the things that fans of The Bear say about him online. He said that even though Moss-Bachrach was on vacation, he made sure to keep in touch.
White said, “Ebon’s going after me. He’s in Greece with his whole family and I’m like, Get off your phone. Go swim!”
White continued to Vanity Fair, "Ebon’s also the one who’ll be like, ‘My buddy sent this to me' and I’m like, What buddy, Ebon? What buddy?!”
White doesn't talk about Moss-Bachrach that often. When he's interviewed about The Bear, he tends to focus on his character Carmy and how he prepared to play the part. But in this Vanity Fair piece, he did share this funny story, which proves that the actors have a nice relationship.
Fans of The Bear will be glad to know that Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach's real-life bond is definitely intact. Although their characters Carmy and Richie have a long way to go before they can truly understand each other, these brilliant actors seem to have a great friendship.
