Ellen DeGeneres was taken aback by Tom Cruise's response about how much sleep he gets per night. Cruise has been one of the most successful stars in Hollywood for decades. His body of work includes plenty of action films, in which Cruise can be seen performing his own dangerous stunts. Cruise has performed some incredible stunts throughout his career, including his most recent in which he jumps a motorcycle off a cliff.

Several of Cruise's past co-stars have said they liked working with him. Thinking quickly while filming a stunt for The Mummy, Cruise was able to save the life of one of his co-stars, Annabelle Wallis. Holding onto an airplane while it's taking off and purposefully crashing motorcycles seem like perfect reasons to get plenty of extra sleep. Ellen DeGeneres was surprised when Tom Cruise revealed how much sleep he gets each night.

How Much Sleep Does Tom Cruise Get Each Night?

Tom Cruise is one of the biggest stars in the world, and while some A-list celebrities are rumored to be divas, Cruise is reported to be a genuinely nice person. At one point, he supported Jessica Chastain in breaking her contract on their film so she could make Zero Dark Thirty.

During Cruise's first appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2003, DeGeneres, her audience and Cruise were laughing while she asked him a series of questions, joking around with the Top Gun: Maverick actor and asking him things like, "Boxers, briefs, or nothing at all?" Cruise replied "briefs," but first wanted to know "what time of the day she was asking about."

At one point, the host dived into the topic of sleep, wanting to know how much sleep Cruise was able to get. She asked, "How many hours of sleep do you get a night, because you really are-How much do you sleep usually?

Cruise said that although it depended on the day and other factors, he usually gets between "four to six hours of sleep at night."

He told DeGeneres, "Depends on the day, the workload, you know, the kids... When I'm shooting and what I'm doing now, four to six is what I usually average."

After hearing how about Cruise's nightmarish sleep schedule, DeGeneres seemed shocked. Cruise is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and he's mainly known for his action films, which have included jaw-dropping stunts. It's surprising he doesn't get more sleep!

Ellen DeGeneres couldn't believe it when she learned how little Tom Cruise sleeps each night. Celebrities are known to have heavy work schedules at times, but they still need to be able to rest.

After hearing how many hours of sleep Cruise usually got at night, she commented, "See four to six is just not enough anyway, much less with the work you're doing, the amount of energy that you put into a day. I mean you showed me your arm, this morning you were up at five."

"Slept about five and a half hours," the Collateral actor commented.

She added, "I don't know how you do it." The Mission: Impossible actor said that his children made him realize how much energy he really had.

Cruise responded, "I just go, you know? I just go. You know when you have kids, you just realize you have more energy than you ever thought."

"Really?" The host asked, "Oh yeah," Cruise said.

He continued, "I've been tired before, but when you have kids, and you're feeding kids in the middle of the night... You know it's, you get that nauseous thing that happens, you know where you feel like you're so tired you're gonna puke, but you have no choice you just have to keep going."

The Knight and Day actor added, "I just go. I just do it, and I'm excited about what I'm doing, and I feel really happy."

Tom Cruise Gets Less Sleep When He's Working

Some celebrities have odd sleeping habits, or even suffer from certain types of sleep disorders. Others might make lists of demands for hotel stays, making outrageous requests for things like certain types of furniture and scented candles. Whichever way a celeb chooses to sleep, they need to get a good amount in order to be rested and prepared for work.

However, some celebrities, including Tom Cruise, find it hard to catch the proper amount of shut-eye when they are working on a project, like filming a movie. The actor has said before that he sleeps less when he's working.

According to the Evening Standard, Cruise revealed how much he sleeps when training for his stunts. The Mummy actor said, "I have trained my whole life, constantly, whether it's drama or action.

He added, "I don't sleep much and I love what I do so I'm working many long hours. I've been doing it for so long, and I never take anything for granted."

When Tom Cruise is able to get a good nights sleep, he reportedly uses a "snoratorium". According to the Daily Mail, snoratoriums are "sound-proofed, padded and atmospherically-controlled" rooms.

According to an insider who visited Cruise's home, "Whoever uses the snoring room cannot be heard outside the locked door."

The source added, "It's very small, comfortable and dark, maybe a former nursery." At the time, Cruise denied having a separate room from his then-wife, Katie Holmes.
