Summary

  • Many actors and actresses collect souvenirs from their past projects as a way to remember their time on set and their characters.
  • Emilia Clarke wanted to have tangible memories of her time on Game of Thrones, including the iconic dragon eggs, but was unable to acquire them due to set rules.
  • While some actors on the show were able to keep items, Emilia Clarke followed the rules and didn't take anything, unlike others who took random kitchen utensils. She hopes to someday receive her desired mementos.

There's a reason that souvenir shops at top tourist destinations make a killing with the items they sell. People who visit the area, attraction, or city want something to take back with them. Having a physical representation of a visit allows the memories to come flooding back every time you see that token artifact you brought back from your travels.

As much as you wouldn't expect it, celebrities are the same way. When it comes to actress Emilia Clarke, the desire to have something to represent a triumphant period in her life is just as strong as those who venture out on vacation. People around the world know Emilia Clarke from her time on the infamous HBO series Game of Thrones. For most of the show, she played Daenerys Targaryen, the counterpart to Jason Momoa's Khal Drogo. What is it that she wants so badly, and has she been able to obtain it?

Although there are likely many celebrities who also collect souvenirs from their frequent jet-setting across the globe, many of them also acquire souvenirs of another variety. Once an acting job is done, the chances of returning for a reboot are highly unlikely.

Therefore, having a souvenir of sorts to commemorate a star's time on the show, movie, program, or film can provide a memory of that period. Alternatively, while some shows do go on to have spin-offs or reboots, the original cast isn't always a part of the new project.

In the case of Emilia Clarke, while she was front and center in Game of Thrones, she was not part of the spin-offs, including the highly acclaimed House of Dragons. Therefore, if she wanted to have physical memories of her time on the set, having items that reminded her of her character and episodes would be helpful.

While other actors on the show were able to keep small items, such as Sophie Turner being able to keep her corset, Emilia Clarke was not able to hold on to anything, even the iconic wig that she wore in every episode.

At the top of Clarke's wish list was the set of dragon eggs prominent to her character. Unfortunately, she was unable to acquire them due to the Game of Thrones set rules.

Often, an actor or actress is permitted to retain a keepsake that is important to them and speaks to their characters. However, there are some instances where this blatantly goes against the rules.

Unfortunately for Clarke, Game of Thrones was a situation in which taking home props or accessories went against the regulations set forth by the company, director, and producers.

While Emilia Clarke is well-known for her role on Game of Thrones, she has taken on a slew of other roles in the acting world. Although there are plenty of photos and, obviously video, of her work, those aren't easily able to slide into scrapbooks or be on display in order to show her accomplishments.

Having a physical item to display is something that many appreciate and look forward to.

In an episode of the Netflix show The Home Edit, another Hollywood actress hired the infamous company to take all of her props, accessories, and clothing from past movies and organize them into a closet for display purposes.

Reese Witherspoon utilized the company to create a visually appealing area that housed items from Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, and other projects the actress worked on throughout the years.

From that example, it's clear that keeping certain key pieces from projects is a common occurrence. Therefore, it's understandable that the cast of Game of Thrones would have felt the same way in wanting to retain something to keep the memories alive.

Emilia Clarke Is a Strict Rule Follower

Unfortunately, the Game of Thrones set did not allow the cast to take items from the show for their own personal possession. As a self-proclaimed rule follower, Emilia Clarke abided by this limitation. However, other cast members did not, as she explained during a Vogue rapid-fire session.

After the show ended, many of the cast members began to panic that this was the last time they would be on set. As a result, some actors collected whatever they could get their hands on, including one who walked away with random kitchen utensils, according to Clarke.

While it's unknown if their actions came with any ramifications, it's unlikely that the stars will be required to return any of the items. For some studios, the reasoning behind implementing such a rule is to be able to sell the items later on to museums or at auction.

Perhaps someday Emilia Clarke will get a phone call from the director of Game of Thrones offering her the dragon eggs that she so desires to have or even a belated parting gift of Daenerys' long blonde locks. Only time will tell.
