British Actress Emily Blunt has had her fair share of blockbuster movies in the film industry. Despite having no shortage of box office hits on her filmography, she expressed regrets when she missed out on the role of Black Widow. The role has been pretty much synonymous with Scarlett Johansson these days.

Emily Blunt was the first choice to play the Marvel Comics superheroine, however things went south, and she ended up losing her chance to play the role. Due to a conflict for a film she was contracted to do, she had to reject the offer to play a part on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

John Krasinski’s Wife Is The Top Choice For The Role Of Black Widow

Prior to Scarlett Johansson landing the role of Marvel Studios’ Natasha Romanoff, it was first offered to Emily Blunt. The British Actress was the top choice to portray the role of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately for Emily Blunt, she could not take on the role as she has a prior commitment to the 2010 film Gulliver's Travels starring Jack Black.

After the Edge of Tomorrow actress turned down the film offer to play Black Widow, the role eventually went to Scarlett Johansson. Natasha Romanoff was finally introduced in the MCU through the film Iron Man 2. She was introduced on the film as Nick Fury’s undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Johansson’s introduction to the film franchise is quite impressive as she’s had her moments smashing and punching things. The fans can’t help but love her badass character who’s always lending her helping hand to Captain America.

Scarlett Johansson went on to fill the role of Black Widow and made millions from it. She filmed seven movies until she finally had her character’s end in 2019 in the film Avengers: Endgame. Although her character has long been dead in the MCU, Scarlett Johansson is yet to star in her final movie for the film franchise, which is her long overdue solo film Black Widow. Her final film for the MCU as Natasha Romanoff was supposed to give a proper farewell to her character’s story in the MCU.

It’s pretty hard to imagine Black Widow as any other actress since Johansson has pretty much cemented her Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow persona.

Emily Blunt Regrets Turning Down The Role

With all the success that the Marvel Cinematic Universe accomplished in the film industry, it’s not surprising that actors who missed out on an MCU role will regret not landing the part. When Emily Blunt closed her doors to the MCU film franchise, it paved the way and opened multiple doors of opportunities for Scarlett Johansson.

For over a decade, people speculated that Blunt just rejected the role and moved on from it. However, during her interview with Howard Stern, she revealed her sentiments towards the rejection. It turns out that she was heartbroken for passing on this massive opportunity. She added that she was very keen in taking part in the film however she just had to turn it down.

The actress further revealed that she was contracted to do Gulliver’s Travels, but she didn’t want to do the said film at the time. Despite her hesitations, she had no choice since she had to take pride in her own decisions, so she just went on to do it. She also added that she has been a huge fan of Iron Man, so she went on to audition for the part of Black Widow.

She was obsessing over Iron Man and wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr. The actress who has worked with Disney believes that working on the film would have been amazing. It’s not too late for the actress to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rumor has it that she was in the running to portray the character of Sue Storm in the forthcoming MCU film Fantastic Four.

The actress believes that she and her husband John Krasinski are quite the fan favorites to play Reed Richards and Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot. Fans may love seeing them on the film, but Blunt revealed that she hasn’t received any calls from the producers’ end.

Despite Regrets, Emily Blunt Thinks Superhero Roles Are Not For Her

Thankfully for the actress, her feelings of regrets eventually subsided. After the enormous success of the film A Quiet Place, the actress no longer has a place for regrets in her heart. The 39 years old actress believes that if she had taken the role of Black Widow, she would not be able to do a lot of projects that she loved doing.

With the $341 million success on the box office of A Quiet Place directed by her husband, she’s relieved that she did not take on the role of Black Widow. She believes that with the nature of the contracts and obligations of signing under the MCU film franchise, she would have missed out on the A Quiet Place role.
