It was a halftime show fans will never forget featuring hip-hop and rap icons such as Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar. Of course, it wasn't without controversy, as Eminem took a knee in honor of Colin Kaepernick. It is said that the NFL did not want this to take place, though they recently revealed that this was not true.
Controversy aside, the halftime show was celebrated by fans, featuring performers with hefty net worths. Given all the money they have in the bank, fans are wondering how much they were paid for the gig. It might be surprising to find out that it really wasn't much, though the impact of performing on the biggest stage can bring dollar signs in several ways.
Eminem And Snoop Dogg Are Back On Good Terms
It was a feud that lasted way too long, at least from a fan perspective. As it turns out, just prior to the 'Super Bowl', Eminem and Snoop final made up putting their differences aside.
According to Snoop Dogg, not only did he reveal alongside NME that he had apologized to Eminem, but he would also state that he was doing his best to work on himself as well.
“I felt like I was out of pocket. I apologized to him, and I let him know and I’m just bettering myself. I make mistakes,” he said. “I ain’t perfect, I’m Snoop Dogg.”
Snoop would also state that he and Eminem are like family and have learned to respect one another, despite their differences.
“Man, I love Eminem!” Snoop added. “The thing is that we love hip-hop so much, we competitive, we battle rappers, so that was supposed to trigger that in him. But we brothers and we family so we learned to appreciate each other for what we do and how we get down, and we had a long conversation about the respect that we have for each other and the way we need to talk in public about each other.”
It all worked out very well, especially for the fans as the two were back on stage alongside one another during the Super Bowl halftime show.
Given the stacked lineup of hip-hop and raps finest, fans are wondering how much the performers were paid for the gig?
Eminem, Snoop Dogg And The Other Super Bowl Performers Were Not Paid For The Performances
It was more than just a performance, for the likes of Dr. Dre, it was a change to shift culture and make a huge statement.
“We’re gonna open more doors for hip-hop artists in the future and making sure that the NFL understands that this is what it should have been a long time ago. We’re gonna show how professional we can be, how dope we can be on stage, and how exciting we’re gonna be to the fans.”
The performance definitely lived up, as it became one of the most well recieved halftime shows in history. Given the success, fans would expect the talent to have made huge bucks, though in truth, not from the NFL... as the NFL does not pay the performers, instead, they do cover the cost of the production, which can cost millions of dollars.
According to an NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter, the cost can exceed $13 million.
Don't feel too sorry for the performers, as they're more than compensated in other areas.
Playing At The Super Bowl Is Profitable In Other Ways, Especially In Album Sales
Playing on the biggest stage in television has its perks, even if the NFL didn't pay the likes of Eminem and Snoop Dogg. Instead, album sales usually spike after their performances. According to Country Living, J-Lo and Shakira saw huge increases following their Super Bowl gig, with sales increasing by 1,013%.
The same took place for Maroon 5, even though they got torn to shreds for the performance, they still saw a big spike in sales up 434%.
The viewership and platform alone is enough to entice any performer, as the NFL finals usually brings in over 100 million viewers. However, it seems like Eminem might not get a call back, after he took a knee, even though the NFL apparently told him otherwise.
Given his net worth of $230 million, matched with his immense popularity, we're pretty sure the rap icon won't be losing any sleep over it.
