On Friday, a local Hamptons bookstore had not one, but two famous faces visiting at the same time. They were Roberts and former President, Bill Clinton.
Following the protocol of all former presidents, Clinton was flanked by the Secret Service while he browsed books to purchase while he enjoyed time in the upscale New York town. While this would be a sign for most to keep their distance from Clinton and his team, the presence of the armed protection did not phase Roberts who chose to bulldoze through them instead.
Roberts had been trying to avoid paparazzi as she entered and exited the bookstore for a couple of cups of coffee to go, one of which she handed to boyfriend, Cody John. Dressed casually in biker shorts, black tank, and Birkenstocks, Roberts made her way out of the store barely avoiding a member of the Secret Service. As she passed him, Roberts could be heard telling him to "get out of the way."
The behavior drew opinions from Roberts' fans and critics, most of which did not approve of the way Roberts handled the situation.
"She just told that guy to get out of the way, so rude!" one person commented on Instagram.
Another user commented, "I'm pretty sure she meant for someone to get out of her way."
Others felt that Roberts just wanted to get out of the store and away from all the chaos to enjoy her morning coffee.
"I think she meant she was getting 'out of the way' because she knew they were taking pics of Clinton and didn't want to be in the shot," a third person commented on Instagram. "Hence the reason she laughed and said 'This is ridiculous'."
Whatever the case may be, it was clear that Roberts wanted to be out of the limelight as much as possible during her downtime that has been a result of the ongoing strike in Hollywood.

As a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, actors have been taking off and enjoying the downtime between projects given that they are not allowed to shoot or even promote their films or tv shows. Because of this, if not on the picket line showing their support for the strike, many have been photographed taking vacations or weekend getaways that are long overdue.
The Hamptons is a special place for Roberts. While Los Angeles is her permanent home, her mother has lived in the Hamptons since Roberts was a little girl. As such, it is a home away from home used to get away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.
In fact, Roberts is quite a voracious reader. Because of this, it is not surprising to find her in the local bookshop picking up a new book to read while in the coastal town.
However, since her pregnancy in 2000, Roberts has found a new distaste for the paparazzi, which could be an explanation for her behavior in the bookstore late last week.
"I’d be driving to a doctor’s appointment and they’d be following me so closely," Roberts explained. "At one point, I remember saying to them, 'Please don’t do that, I’m eight months pregnant.' But they don’t care. It’s not the fun, creative part of the job, for sure."
While her son, Rhodes, 2, is usually with Roberts, he was nowhere to be found while she and John wandered around the Hamptons. He was with his father, Garrett Hedlund instead.

As Roberts spent time with John, Rhodes went boating with his father and Roberts' ex, Hedlund to celebrate the actor's birthday.
Hedlund, who turned 38, posted a series of pictures to Instagram that showed himself and Rhodes enjoying themselves out on the open water.
"Oh Captain My Captain! The greatest bday a goof could ever ask for," Hedlund captioned the photos. "Thank you all for your wonderful wishes! All my heart!"
Hedlund and Roberts were romantically linked in 2019 and announced they were expecting their first baby together in 2020. The two remained together until January 2022, when they decided to go their separate ways. The split was not an ugly one, however, and the two remain committed to co-parenting peacefully for the sake of Rhodes.
