Elizabeth Olsen, the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, has made a name for herself in Hollywood when she began starring in several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and television shows. The actress is well-known for playing the character of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in several Avengers films, Captain America: Civil War, and the Disney+ hit WanadaVision. Besides her work in MCU, Olsen has also appeared in other films, such as Liberal Arts, Godzilla, and Martha Marcy May Marlene, to name a few.
However, Olsen's success in the MCU is what put her name on the map. Olsen had a small uncredited cameo as Scarlet Witch in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, however, her character wasn't officially introduced until Avengers: Age of Ultron. After her small cameo, Olsen began the process of putting her MCU contract together. In the past, Olsen had never signed on to several films at once, a process Marvel actors are used to. Below readers will find everything we know about Elizabeth Olsen's contract with Marvel.
7 She Signed On For Two Movies
While appearing on the Awards Chatter Podcast from The Hollywood Reporter, Oslen spoke about her contracts and how she originally only signed on for two movies and a cameo more than ten years ago. She has gone through three rounds of contracts already and had a feeling, from the start, Marvel had big plans for her in the franchise. "I just do, like, appetizer or something they never have me over for the big meal!" she said of working with the team at Marvel. Her contract has benefitted the actress in so many ways as they continue to use her because they believe her character plays a significant role in the franchise.
6 She Didn't Do The "Six Movies And Nine Deals" Thing
Looking back at the "six movies and nine deals" contracts other Marvel actors have signed, Olsen has no idea the Marvel team could even use a majority of the material they ended up using in the Disney+ series WanadaVision. For her, this type of contract was too much for her to take on at once. Olsen wasn't sure if there was a future for her character in the
franchise long-term and was shocked when they asked her back. Even though Wanda was included in some of the most important moments in the Avengers films, Oslen was still skeptical about her role in the films. In the end, Olsen was happy with how they had used her as she always felt like "[she] had something substantial to do in those films."
5 How 'WandaVision' Compares To Her Other Projects
Compared to projects she has done in the past, Olsen was nervous to take on the WanadaVision TV series, as the responsibilities were so different from other Marvel projects she has filmed. The actress knew the fans would have their eyes glued to the TV when watching the show and was somewhat intimidated by the task.
4 She Loved The 'WandaVision' Script
Olsen loved the script and Wanda’s arc, so she was completely won over and signed on to the series. Filming the show has allowed Olsen to become more attached to her character and realized how much she adores playing this character. Since WandaVision is at the forefront of the minds of Marvel fans, it seems Olsen's contract may be changing once again.
3 She Had No Idea She Would Still be Playing Wanda Today
When she signed on to her first Marvel film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Olsen had no idea where her character was headed. In the past, Olsen has read the comics but didn't know the extent of her involvement in the franchise. At the time, Olsen had only signed to film a couple of films at once, so she did not think her Marvel days would last far beyond the
2020s. "Now it’s this completely new thing that it never was at the beginning," she said of playing her character, adding, "And going from the transition from WandaVision to Doctor Strange 2, I just feel like it’s all so earned." After the success of her cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it seems she signed on for another two Avengers movies, plus WandaVision.
2 Her Seventh Appearance Will Be in the 'Doctor Strange' Sequel
Now that WandaVision ended in early March, Olsen is excited for fans to see the newest Marvel installment that she is a part of. She is set to star in the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, alongside fellow Marvel actor Benedict Cumberbatch. The film will continue to explore Wanda's potential in the Marvel universe and if she fits into the future of the franchise.
1 'Doctor Strange' Potentially Changes Her Contract
Olsen did tease a natural progression between WandaVision and the Doctor Strange sequel, which suggests viewers will get to see more of Wanda's reality-bending abilities. As for her contract, if Olsen is still following her original two movies at once contract, there may be a possibility of her making a return to another Avengers film. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit theatres in March of 2022.
