'The Boys' focuses on a world much like ours, but with one difference: some people have superpowers. There's the most popular American group called The Seven, a group used by big brands to fulfil their agenda instead of fighting crimes. Now this isn't your typical Marvel type show. This show takes a hard look at what real people would do if they had superpowers.
People in general can be ruthless, selfish, and materialistic. It would be foolish to think people who were born with advantages wouldn't abuse them in any way. We see it all the time in real life. 'The Boys' is doing a marvellous job of starting a discussion about all humans and their flaws.
While 'The Boys' is basking in a successful moment, most of the production has been kept quiet. As lovers of the show, we had to get more info on what was going on. Here are some little-known facts about the filming of 'The Boys'. These facts will change the way you watch it.
19 It Wasn't Filmed In New York City
The photo above shows Vought Headquarters. It's where the notorious group (The Seven) reside and do business. The show is set in bustling New York City, but that isn't where it was filmed. The bottom photo shows what the top photo is trying to replicate. The real New York City is shown in the bottom photo. Not bad for a recreation!
18 Filming Lasted Only Five Months
It's important to note how much content was produced in the first season of 'The Boys'. The first season has eight episodes and each episode is about an hour long. Considering how much was filmed, we'd say that 5 months of filming is no time at all! There are plenty of movies that are less than two hours yet take years to film.
17 The Content Became Increasingly Relevant
Let us set the background for you. 'The Boys' is about to be picked up by Cinemax and Barack Obama is still President of the United States. There is no MeToo movement and there won't be for some time. Watching the show now, it seems like perfect timing. The show deals with abuse of power, sexual harassment, and sexism in the workplace, but it was in development long before all this came to the forefront of our media.
16 Canada's Winter Almost Ruined The Show
The timeline of 'The Boys' goes from May to mid-October. Canada is known for their extreme winters, so it was a big time crunch to get everything filmed before all of the outdoor filming locations would be covered in snow. A nature related delay could've set the release date back another year.
15 None Of The Cast Knew Each Other
'The Boys' is a big project with a considerable amount of money tied to it. On top of that, none of the cast members knew each other prior to filming. All of that information boils down to pressure for the actors. There's pressure to have great on screen chemistry. Especially for those close and extremely intimate scenes.
14 Luckily, They All Got Along
Looking at the cast now, you would have guessed they were lifelong friends. The cast can be seen doing silly poses together on the red carpet and smiling adoringly at each other during panel discussions. You can even see the actors hanging out after filming on each other's social media.
13 Season 2 Was Filmed In Toronto
Spoiler alert!: season 2 is on its way! The cast was spotted filming again in Toronto. It's no surprise that the cast and crew would return to the same place where they filmed the first season. But it is interesting that they would choose the same place where the weather consistency could be an issue. Maybe we'll get some scenes of 'NYC' during the winter in the second season!
12 They Filmed A Public Indecency Scene That Got Cut
If you've even seen just the trailer for this show, then you'd know that the writers love to push the boundaries of what is acceptable. The cast and crew had actually filmed one of the main characters exposing himself in the middle of the city while screaming that he could do whatever he wants. Amazon was quick to cut the scene as it didn't add anything to the character's development.
11 Residents Protested A Scene For Being Too Insensitive
In the script, there was a scene of immense violence. While that isn't unusual for 'The Boys', it hit a little too close to home with some of the residents living nearby. The scene was supposed to enact an attack on a crowd of people. Unfortunately, Toronto suffered from an attack not too unlike the one in the script a short time ago.
10 Toronto Councillor Had To Step In To Get A Scene Removed
The production was halted in the middle of filming when John Filion stepped in to get the scene removed. Filion stated that the people of Toronto had suffered enough from the attack (a man driving a van ran down and killed pedestrians) and that citizens didn't need to relive the trauma.
