The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal has signed on to headline HBO's highly anticipated tv series adaption of the popular video game The Last of Us, where he will star as the lead character, Joel. Pascal will join his fellow Game of Thrones alum Bella Ramsey in the new series; Ramsey has been cast as Ellie.
Fans of the PlayStation game are incredibly hopeful that the tv series will be a success after learning that Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin will be on board, as well as the writer and creative director of the game, Neil Druckman.
It is the first television series from Playstation Productions, and several Twitter users showing their enthusiasm for the upcoming series and the "perfect casting" that has so far been named.
Pascal is quickly becoming a household name. After earning recognition in Game of Thrones, where he starred as Oberyn Martell in season four, and starring as real-life Drug Enforcement Agent Javier Peña in the Netflix series Narcos, he was already fast gaining notoriety before he signed on to be part of the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise.
Of course, Pascal has now become synonymous with Disney+'s The Mandalorian, which he will continue to portray, even though The Last of Us has him in first position. This means, if there is a scheduling conflict, Pascal is obligated to work on The Last of Us.
Fans of The Mandalorian should not fret, since it's well-known that Pascal was not on set for much of the show anyway, his face being hidden under his helmet. After all, as Collider states, with so much action in the Star Wars tv series, there were probably more stuntmen portraying the character than the actor himself.
There are no other announcements as to who else will star in the upcoming series. However, Druckmann has confirmed that characters Riley, Tess, Maria, and Marlene, who appeared in the first game, will be part of the show as well.
