The frontman of rock band Smash Mouth is throwing in the towel.

After making headlines this week for his erratic behavior and obscene comments during a performance, lead singer Steve Harwell announced he is retiring.

The news prompted quite a few reactions from people on Twitter, with some trolling the 54-year-old.

Harwell Is Retiring Following Bizarre Concert This Weekend

This weekend Smash Mouth, a band from the 90s that is still doing shows, played at a local beer and wine event in New York state.

Video from the show went viral due to how Harwell was acting on stage.

He was swearing at the crowd, slurring his words, and reportedly made an anti-Semitic gesture.

As the internet was buzzing about it, TMZ reported this morning that Harwell is officially retiring from singing, citing health issues.

“I’ve tried so hard to power through my physical and mental health issues and to play in front of you one last time, but I just wasn’t able to,” Harwell said.

A representative for the band said that his health issues are also why he was causing such a scene at the show this weekend.

Harwell has cardiomyopathy, which is a type of heart disease, and acute Wernicke encephalopathy, which affects a person’s speech and memory.

He told TMZ that it was his childhood dream to be a rock star and he’s glad he got to live it out.

Twitter Users Were Trolling The Singer After The News

After the announcement came out that Steve has quit the music business, people took to Twitter to express their thoughts.

Many were on the platform being cheeky and trolling the singer by using his own lyrics in response.

“I thought somebody once told him the world was gonna roll him and he wasn't prepared!?” one person wrote, referring to the hit Smash Mouth song All Star, which appeared in the movie Shrek.

“Hey now, Yer not an All Star, got yer hate on, go away!” another wrote, swapping out some lyrics to better apply to the situation.

“Not the sharpest tool in the shed...See what I did there?” somebody else said, joining in on the fun.

One person posted a GIF from the All Star music video with the lyrics “My world’s on fire; how ‘bout yours?”.

Another individual used the lyrics to express that maybe Harwell leaving the band is not necessarily a bad thing.

“Let's face it: We could all use a little change,” they wrote.
