Years after 'Friends' came to an end, fans are still learning new information about the show. Like the fact that a seventh "friend" was supposed to be used, or the crew using body doubles to replace Monica and Rachel. The show had so many great moments and as it turns out, they also had great storylines that didn't make it on the air, despite the fact that they actually got shot. Let's take a look at a particular storyline featuring Phoebe.
Which Phoebe Storyline Did 'Friends' Cut?
Even the creators of 'Friends' admitted that at the start, they thought it was going to be just another sitcom, in which they would work for a few years before moving on to the next one. Of course, that was not the case, as 'Friends' thrived on television for a decade and until this very day, the creators and cast are still making millions per year thanks to backend agreements.
Fans have a terrific memory of moments that took place on the show, but the same can't be said for the cast. Lisa Kudrow admitted alongside Today that she hardly remembers moments or episodes that took place on the iconic sitcom.
“Yeah, Courteney and I are completely in the same boat,” Kudrow replied. “We don’t even remember what the episodes were.”
Kudrow added, “I know I haven’t seen all the episodes.” Cox felt the same way, forgetting about several moments that took place during the reunion episode.
“I should’ve watched all 10 seasons because when I did the reunion and was asked questions, I was like, ‘I don’t remember being there."
Kudrow would further admit that the cast used to watch the show together on Thursdays, though that eventually changed when life got in the way, such as families.
“I have a kid and things are happening and there wasn’t TiVo yet."
Kudrow might not remember this either, as she filmed a certain storyline for the episode, "The one about the truth about London." The storyline seemed to be funny and entertaining, though ultimately it was dropped. Let's take a look at the scenes and what happened.
Phoebe's Medication Storyline Was Shot But Didn't Make The Show
The episode aired in early 2001 during season seven. Kudrow and 'Friends' shot a few scenes for the episode showing Phoebe's headache. She didn't believe in medication, instead believing in self-healing, however in this case, she decided to listen to Monica and take the pills.
The rest of the episode shows Phoebe feeling much better, though then regretting her decision to take the pills, given that there were certain side-effects of taking it that she had read about on the label.
"Your such a baby," Monica stated in the final scene of the storyline. "Interesting you say that cause now I may never have one," Phoebe responds while showing Monica the label.
It was a funny storyline and one that could have easily made the show. It was released as extra footage in the 'Friends' Season 7 DVD. Perhaps given that it involved medication, the creators decided against touching the topic. Ultimately, fans had a different opinion on the storyline.
What Did The Fans Think Of The Canceled Storyline?
The canceled storyline on 'Friends' was posted to YouTube, and it has over 30K views. Despite the fact that it was cut out from the episode, fans seemed to have enjoyed the moment. Here's what some 'Friends' fans had to say about the deleted Phoebe storyline.
"Why did this get deleted? It's so funny!"
"Interestingly Lisa kudrow’s father was a Headache specialist so she actually knows a whole deal about headaches."
"I remember this scene! It's on the DVD."
"I can't believe I've never seen this, it is so funny."
Friends fans would also indicate that certain scenes were cut out of the show due to commercials, but would make it on the DVD.
"To clarify exactly what these scenes are, because people seem to be confused: Those scenes (and plenty more) were cut out of the original TV run of Friends to make room for commercials. They were left in the home release of Friends on VHS and DVD. But only the TV footage still had the negatives that could be scanned to get the show in high res and not cut down to 4:3 aspect ratio. That's why Netflix release doesn't have them."
Still to this day, fans keep learning new things about the show.
