Following the shocking news of his split with Emma Roberts, singer and actor Garrett Hedlund joined Instagram, and released a new song titled "The Road." The stars split comes just over a year after giving birth to their son Rhodes.
Hedlund's first Instagram photo was used to promote "The Road," and shows him playing the guitar in the recording studio. "Been cookin' somethin' up in the studio for the past couple of months, and now I finally get to share it with the world." He continues to say that this is his first solo track, and that he is preparing to share more music in the future.
Hedlund began releasing music after appearing in the 2010 film Country Strong. Critics praised both his acting and musical style, and he went on to star and contribute music to the 2019 film Dirt Music. His highest-charting song to this date is "Give in to Me," sung by him and Leighton Meester. The track reached number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 96 on the Canadian Hot 100.
His And Roberts Relationship Had Been Rough For Months
Although the news of their breakup was just announced, Hedlund and Roberts broke up weeks ago after their relationship turned sour a few months ago. So far, the two have been able to stay amicable, and multiple sources told PEOPLE that they are doing their best to continue parenting their son. An insider told PEOPLE, "It's sad, and they are trying their best to co-parent. It's been hard."
Neither Hedlund nor Roberts has commented on the breakup. There is also no word on whether "The Road" includes lyrics that were inspired by their relationship and/or separation.
The News Of Their Split Was Announced After Hedlund's DUI Controversy Arose Once Again
Outside his relationship with Roberts, Hedlund made news headlines in 2020 after getting into a car accident due to drunk driving. Police officers found that he was driving four times over the legal limit after he initially attempted to flee the accident scene. There were four people in the car that Hedlund hit head-on, including two minors.
Less than a week before the announcement of his split with Roberts, media outlets reported that both the mother and one of her daughters were suing the artist for negligence. The two are requesting punitive damages and a trial. Although this could be a factor in their rough patch, the stars have not discussed the exact reasons. As of this publication, Hedlund has not responded to this update in the legal matter.
Hedlund has not given any more hints regarding his music, and has not discussed if he will be releasing an EP or an entire album. However, he is set to star in The Ploughmen and The Marsh King's Daughter. As of this publication, the films have finished filming, but have yet to have release dates.
