The original Gossip Girl ran for six amazing seasons between 2007 and 2012 and no one has forgotten how incredible it was. It was way ahead of its time when it came to the idea of social media, have fans, friends, and followers, and more. The show starred actors and actresses like Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford, and Taylor Momsen. These awesome actors have moved on to other awesome projects since the final episode of Gossip Girl wrapped but we still adore them just as much. Penn Badgley is starring on Netflix's You which might help tide us over as we wait for this reboot.
The rebooted version of the show may or may not include all of the faces we know and love but either way, we are super excited to see what is coming. Continue reading to find out everything we know so far about this highly anticipated reboot!
18 The Reboot Will Star An Entirely New Cast
For those of us out there who were hoping to see Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, and the rest of the cast come back entirely to continue the show where it left off, we are out of luck. The reboot will include a brand new cast of teenagers in the city of New York. Continue reading to see what each actor has said about returning.
17 The New Characters Will Reference Serena, Blair, Chuck, Nate, And Dan
The new characters will reference the existence of Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Dan Humphrey, Chuck Bass, and Nate Archibald. The new characters are living and existing in the same universe that the OG characters lived in. Gossip Girl herself obviously still exists as well and will also be referenced.
16 Penn Badgley Said He'd (Possibly) Be Open To Returning
In an interview with Vogue, Penn Badgely said, “I think it’s pretty clear that I’ve never been a proponent of Dan Humphrey’s. I’ve never been necessarily the greatest friend or fan of Dan Humphrey, which now I reconcile in this way that I’m like, you know, I would love to contribute in a meaningful way to it."
15 Kristen Bell Will Be Narrating The Reboot
Kristen Bell narrated the original first six seasons of Gossip Girl between 2007 and 2012. We are so excited to learn that she will be returning as the narrator in the reboot. No one else can pull off making those snarky statements filled with so much attitude and sass the way Kristen Bell always did.
14 Taylor Momsen Vocalized Her Disinterest In Returning To The Show
In an interview with Riverfront Times in 2014, Taylor Momsen said, "I'm not looking to go back to it. Gossip Girl was a great experience, and it helped in one way and hurt in another, but it feels like forever ago." That is a huge bummer because we would love to see more of Jenny Humphrey's storyline continue.
13 The Reboot Is Coming To Us On HBO
We already know that HBO knows how to bring it when it comes to entertaining television. Case in point, Game of Thrones. We already know that HBO gets behind the best TV shows and movies so we will be far from disappointed when the first ten episodes of the Gossip Girl reboot are released.
12 We'll Be Getting Ten Episodes To Start Out With
The reboot will start off by giving us ten episodes. Ten episodes just does not feel like enough, to be honest. We hope that each and every episode is filled to the brim with exciting drama for us to follow to make up for the fact that we aren't getting more than ten episodes!
11 Chace Crawford Said He'd Be Open To Returning
Chace Crawford told Digital Spy, "I don't know what it would look like with us being in our 30s now, but I always say, because it was such a big part of my life, I'm open to anything. It would have to be really right, and really specific, and with TV and the golden age of the TV streaming service, maybe an eight-episode season..."
10 Not Every New Character Will Live On The Upper East Side
Show creators specified the fact that not every new character will live on the Upper East Side. Just like with the OG characters, Dan Humphrey, Jenny Humphrey, and Vanessa Abrahms lived in Brooklyn while Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, and Nate Archibald resided on the Upper East Side.
9 The Show Will Include Queer Storylines
Eric van der Woodsen was the one and only main character from Gossip Girl who was openly gay. He had relationships with Asher Hornsby, Jonathan Whitney, and Eliot Garfield. He also had a brief fling with Damien Dalgaard. The rebooted series will include more queer storylines to follow.
