Her real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane and her stage name is actually an anagram of her first name—which, if you think about it is pretty awesome! Halsey also admitted that her name is also based on a New York subway street that she grew up around in Brooklyn.
9 She Is Biracial
One of the more unknown facts about Halsey is that she is actually biracial. Her parents are Chris and Nicole Frangipane and they tend to stay out of the spotlight that follows Halsey everywhere that she goes. But it turns out that they have some pretty interesting backgrounds as her mother is Irish, Hungarian, and Italian all while her father is Irish and African American. Halsey also has two younger brothers named Dante and Sevian!
8 She Gained Fame Through Social Media
In today's day and age, many celebrities and musicians gain fame through their social media outlets—and surprisingly, Halsey did the same! She began uploading videos of herself singing parodies to popular songs like "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift to her Tumblr and YouTube accounts.

After Halsey graduated high school she found herself dealing with more problems and troubles than her friends or other people her age. She didn't have any money and was forced to live on the streets in New York, she decided to speak on her troubled past at the Ending Youth Homelessness gala last April and even admitted that she considered prostituting herself just so that she would be able to eat that day.
6 It Only Takes Her An Hour To Write A Song

When Halsey was 18 years old she decided to enroll in a community college after graduating high school, in an interview with Fuse she admitted that she originally planned on majoring in fine art but she ended up going in a different direction when she signed up as a songwriting major just so that she could make her parents mad.

At the young age of 17, she attempted suicide and was then diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
