As fans of Netflix's hit reality series Selling Sunset get ready to watch season 7, it's sad to know that Heather Rae Young won't be in many episodes. The star has had a very busy 2023 as she became a mom to her baby boy Tristan at the beginning of the year.
Things haven't been totally perfect for her, though. Heather was the subject of mom-shaming after sharing many Instagram photos of her life with her son. Heather Rae Young also recently shared that she has been going through a tough health struggle. There are actually several Selling Sunset cast members who have experienced scary health-related ups and downs.
Heather Rae Young Learned She Has Hashimoto's Disease
In October 2023, Heather Rae Young talked about having Hashimoto's in an interview with Today.
Heather explained that while she assumed that she was just exhausted from being a parent, she realized that something else was going on. Now, she's taking thyroid medication, but it sounds like it was an awful time in her life.
Heather Rae Young told Today that she felt absolutely terrible:
"I remember saying to my assistant, ‘I feel like I’m dead.' My brain was so tired. My body was so tired. I was exhausted all the time and no amount of sleep could make it better... Filming was absolutely brutal because I could barely get out of bed."
Many who have Hashimoto's can likely relate to Heather Rae Young's experience of feeling extremely tired and wondering what is really happening.

After Amanza Smith Thought She Had Cancer, She Experienced A Bone Infection
While Heather Rae Young shared that she has a thyroid condition, Selling Sunset star Amanza Smith was worried about having cancer. In May 2023, People reported that Amanza said she didn't have cancer.
Amanza had to get a biopsy done on her uterus as there was a possibility that something was wrong.
The Selling Sunset star wrote on Instagram:
"Thank you to everyone for your concerns and well wishes towards my health. I am happy to tell you that I am in fact, not only cancer free, but also possibly aging backwards and happier than I’ve been in forever! The results of my biopsy were benign! I will continue to be grateful for my health, and even more so now than ever! You realize that if it is in fact, in poor, standing, everything else falls secondary."
Unfortunately, that isn't where Amanza Smith's health struggles ended. In August 2023, People reported that Amanza Smith suffered a bone infection that could have resulted in her passing away.
As the reality star and real estate agent explained, she was dealing with horrible headaches. After she fainted, she went to the hospital and found out that she had vertebral osteomyelitis. Her spine was affected, which sounds terrifying. While she is better, she explained to People that as of August 2023, she had to be careful that she wasn't carrying anything that was heavier than five pounds.
Facts about vertebral osteomyelitis (according to The Cleveland Clinic):
- potential symptoms: dropping pounds, tingling or numb feelings, a back that really hurts, not feeling strong
- treatment: a surgical procedure, someone might wear a brace on their back and/or take antibiotics for 6 weeks
Selling Sunset Star Mary Fitzgerald Suffered A Septic Miscarriage
Selling Sunset fans know that Mary Fitzgerald and her husband Romain Bennett have been talking about having a baby for a long time now. While this can be an exciting time for a couple, it can also be heartbreaking if there is infertility or loss. Sadly, the star went through a horrible experience.
According to Page Six, Mary Fitzgerald had a septic miscarriage. She explained that she and Romain tried to conceive and were successful when they went to Bail for their honeymoon in January 2023.

Mary talked about what happened on Instagram and explained that she had surgery. As Page Six explained, when someone suffers a septic miscarriage, that means that their uterus is infected. This can be very dangerous.
Mary wrote on Instagram:
“I guess the only reason why I’ve been silent for a long time — and the reason why I’m speaking out now — is because I do realize how common this is and how many people go through this."
Selling Sunset's Chrishell Stause Had A Cyst On Her Ovaries
In February 2023, Chrishell Stause had surgery because of a cyst on her ovaries. According to E! News, she talked about this on her Instagram account and let fans know what was going on.
A week later, Chrishell told E! News:
"I get my stitches out tomorrow, I had an ovarian cyst removed. All is well, I'm just a little bit on the mend but I expect to be right back at it, get these stitches out, and hopefully I'm going to be good as new."
While Chrishell didn't say much more about the situation and she seems to be doing great now, this still must have been a scary experience.
What is an ovarian cyst and what happens to someone with this condition? (According to NHS.uk)
- could require surgery
- could make it hard to conceive
- symptoms could include: feeling bloated, a pelvis that hurts, difficult periods, feeling the urge to pee all the time
- two types: a "pathological ovarian cyst" (don't happen as often, "abnormal cell growth")
- or a "functional ovarian cyst" ("develop as part of the menstrual cycle" and happen briefly)
While it sounds like Heather Rae Young suffered a lot before learning that she had Hashimoto's disease, the cast members of Selling Sunset have always shown each other love, compassion and support. Although of course they fight as much as other reality stars when the cameras are rolling, it seems possible to assume that they were there for each other during these trying times.
