Sure, Henry Cavill is worth a cool $40 million, not to mention that the star is considered one of the best-looking guys in the world of Hollywood. However, to earn that status, there was a lot of failure along the way.
Cavill actually struggled with his weight at a young age and he was bullied for it. That theme would continue later on in his career, particularly when he auditioned for the role of James Bond. Cavill was one of the finalists for the role, though he was told during the audition process that he was looking a little too thick while sporting a towel...
We can safely say that all changed, especially when Superman entered the picture. It took his fame to a new level and his current look is sought-after by millions of fans.
As if that isn't impressive enough, as it turns out, Cavill works a lot of the stunts on his own while he's onset. A certain string of scenes in a particular show will have fans shocked that it is all Cavill. Though as we'll reveal, it took hours of work to get the scenes down properly.
In addition to revealing the scene, we'll take a look at his history with stunt doubles, and which scene was just too risky for him to pull off on his own.
He Used A Double In The Past
Although he is more than capable, Cavill has used a double in the past, and that includes in the Superman films.
Surprisingly, he did a lot of his own stunts during 'Mission Impossible' alongside Tom Cruise. No doubt, with such a legend by his side, he felt inclined to do some heavy lifting.
However, there was one scene in particular Cruise was not comfortable with Cavill working, "[The] jump out of the back of a [Boeing] C-17 at dusk was my idea of magic and I was praying they'd let me do it, begging Tom. And Tom eventually said to me, 'Look Henry, I understand what you're saying. I would love, love, love for you to do it but if you do, the chances are that you will kill me and everyone else in the process,'" Cavill said.
The scene featured more than 100-jumps, so it is safe to say, Tom was looking out for Henry's best interest.
Needless to say, he's a daredevil nonetheless and his work on 'The Witcher' is a prime example.
He Performs All His Stunts In 'The Witcher'
As of season 1 of 'The Witcher', Cavill was taking on the stunts, without a double. Alongside Cinema Blend, the showrunner Lauren Hissrich admitted that the star of the show was fully engaged when it came to his fight scenes and the use of his sword.
"Henry did not have a stunt double. He does all of his own work. Any time you see him, it's really him. Which means that he trained non-stop. Always had swords in his hand. Was always sort of in the training room with his team."
Truly surreal to think that it was all Cavill, given the intense sword scenes. Turns out, Cavill did hours of practice to perfect the routine.
Cavill's Dangerous Sword Scenes Took Hours Of Training
Authenticity.
That is the reason as to why Cavill took matters into his own hands for the sword scenes in the show.
"It’s very important to me that when you see Geralt on screen that you know it’s Geralt. And that it’s not ‘some guy’ that can do the Geralt stuff and I’m just the actor. For me, the character involves all of that."
So how did he perfect the use of a sword? Like anything else, practice makes perfect. Whenever he had a second, chances are, he was swinging a sword.
"I spent all of my free time when I wasn’t on set – and even when I was on set – with a sword in my hand. It was just getting used to the weight of the sword, using it day in and day out. I had three swords where I lived. I had four at work and it was just nonstop. Practice, practice, practice."
Great to see Cavill's commitment level, despite his high-powered status in the world of Hollywood. The scenes are that much greater to watch, knowing it was all Cavill and those hours of practice.
