Anyone familiar with current reality TV dating shows has surely heard of Love Is Blind. The dating experiment has proven wildly popular, now in its seventh season and expanding into over ten foreign countries. Just this past week, in fact, Netflix announced that they would be filming another spin-off held in France.
Given Love Is Blind's popularity, there's been a lot of buzz around how one might go about applying to be cast on the show. Recently, the reality TV series' casting director and creator spoke about what, exactly, they're looking for in candidates who apply.
The Show's Casting Director Says People Can't Fake It
The casting director behind Love Is Blind is a woman named Donna A. Driscoll, who has been with the show since its very first season. With the show's success has come some major recognition for her, too; Donna was nominated for an Emmy for the category of outstanding casting for a reality program on two separate occasions.
In a conversation with Backstage, Donna opened up about the qualities she was looking for in those who applied to be on the show. Unlike other reality TV shows, she wasn't looking for any particular physical traits, but rather spoke with candidates to get a sense of their personality.

Love Is Blind's Creator Doubles Down On Sketchy Casting, Says They "Aren't The Police"
Chris Coelen is unapologetic about his reality TV creation.
Currently, Donna serves as the head of casting at Kinetic Content, the producer behind Love Is Blind, and she shared about what qualities she was looking for in a potential cast member. Donna noted that they were always trying to suss out who genuinely wanted to participate in the experiment to find love, adding that they were in search of folks who already had a life that was fully formed outside of their relationship status:
The main thing that we’re always looking for are [real] people who have everything going for them in their life; they’re just missing that one piece. And so the intention of why they want to participate in the experiment is a huge factor.
Donna went on to note that what they weren't looking for was someone who was seeking their ticket to reality TV stardom. She expressed that part of her job was deciphering which applicants were interested in finding the "love of their life" more than "want[ing] to be on Netflix."

How To Apply To Love Is Blind
For singles who think they pass that test of authenticity, they can feel free to apply to upcoming seasons of the show. It's already been officially announced that there are plans to film a Season 8 and 9 of the show, and chances are that there will be even more to come further down the road.
For those looking to throw their hat into the ring, Kinetic Content has an online application posted on their website. The first page notes that applicants must be at least 21 years of age, must be legal residents of the United States, and must not be "a candidate for any kind of public office." There is also an explicit point about applicants' relationship status:
All applicants must be single, not presently involved in a committed intimate or monogamous dating relationship or living with anyone with whom they have an intimate or monogamous dating relationship, and cannot be married or in the process of obtaining a divorce or annulment of a marriage.
From there, applicants are taken to a long questionnaire with over 60 topics to complete, and, at the end, they're asked to film themselves in a short 15-second clip to top it off.

In a final note of what to do, Donna recommended that applicants didn't want to spend their entire interview talking about how big a fan they were of the show, noting that this could actually backfire on them. "That is the complete opposite of what we want," she emphasized, going on to add, "We really want you to be you, authentic you. That’s all we’re looking for. We would never want —and we can’t—duplicate another person that was on the season prior. Just be yourself."
While Love Is Blind Season 9 has yet to be officially announced, Season 8 and 9 are apparently already underway, and the French spin-off is also set to release sometime in 2025. All seasons are available to stream on Netflix now.
