One thing movie lovers probably already know about Jared Leto is the fact that he is a known method actor. He gets so invested in the rules that he is taking on that he doesn’t break character, even when the cameras are not rolling. He takes his character personas home with him every time.

It is so serious to him to make sure that he does an excellent job portraying the characters he chooses to portray and so, therefore, method acting is so important to him. Here’s what some of his costars have said about what it’s like to work with him on set.

10 Margot Robbie - 'Suicide Squad'

According to SlashFilm, Suicide Squad was a very interesting filming experience for Margot Robbie. She said, “When I first heard that he was method and that we couldn’t refer to him as Jared and things like that, I started to panic a bit because I’m in an abusive relationship with this guy who thinks he is the character. I was worried I’d get beat up on set. He’s very conscientious on set. He’s not completely lost in the character that he’s violent or anything. Between every take, he asks if I’m okay.” Sounds like however deep into the role Jared Leto allows himself to go, he still never takes things too far.

9 Matthew McConaughey - 'Dallas Buyers Club'

Dallas Buyers Club is the super intense and challenging move that Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto starred in together. The movie is very emotional and informative for so many reasons. Matthew McConaughey said, “Leto and I didn’t meet until after the final scene of the movie. When we finished, it’s a wrap, I turn around and go, ‘Leto, how’s it going?’ He goes, ‘It’s going alright, McConaughey. That was fun.'” They shed light on subject matter that is very heavy but worth discussing.

8 Lindsay Lohan - 'Chapter 27'

Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto starred in the movie Chapter 27 together back in 2006. Rumor has it they even dated for a bit, or at the very least hooked up.  Things didn't end amicably for the former costars and possible former lovers.

She posted a collage of all the actors who have played the role of Joker in the past with a caption saying, "Every man's got a devil, and you can't rest until you find him. A Suicide Squad movie is not helping the world but hurting people. Anger is not an answer for peace. #love #turnup #beherenow#lovenotwar." It is obvious she was coming for Jared Leto, years after they starred in Chapter 27 together.

7 Lord Of War - 'Nicolas Cage'

Jared Leto and Nicolas Cage worked together in a movie called Lord of War which premiered in 2005. This is not the movie Nicolas Cage spoke up about though. Instead, he spoke up about Suicide Squad! He said, “I always thought I'd make a great Joker and I always thought that I would've been a good villain in one of the Marvel [movies] like Doctor Doom. But, Doctor Doom you have to wear that mask, but I thought the story leading up to Doctor Doom could've been interesting." The Joker has been dominated by Jared Leto but seeing Nicolas Cage as Doctor Doom might be interesting.

6 Will Smith - 'Suicide Squad'

Jared Leto and Will Smith played enemies in 2016's Suicide Squad. Will Smith described the experience saying, "We worked together for six months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'Action!' and 'Cut!' We've never said 'hello,' we've never said 'good day.' I've only ever spoken to him as Deadshot and him as the Joker. I literally have not met him yet... Not a single word exchanged off-camera. He was all-in on the Joker." Both of these talented actors did an incredible job in the action-packed DC film.

5 Christian Bale - 'American Psycho'

The movie that Christian Bale and Jared Leto starting together was American Psycho which premiered in 2000. The horror movie was interesting to watch but probably even more interesting to film. In fact, Christian Bale actually deliberately frightened Jared Leto on set. Christian held back his performance until then so that it would be a real surprise. When he screams 'Hey Paul' and Jared turns around and sees Christian running towards him with the ax, he looks genuinely shocked." The surprise behind-the-scenes- moment came in handy for the actual film.

4 Viola Davis - 'Suicide Squad'

Was Viola Davis the biggest fan of Jared Leto on the set of Suicide Squad? She spoke of him saying, "He did some bad things, Jared Leto did. He gave some really horrific gifts. He had a henchman who would come into the rehearsal room, and the henchman came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out. And that was our introduction to Jared Leto." That sounds horrifying and shocking. Not a great first impression if you ask us!

3 Margot Robbie - 'Suicide Squad'

Margot Robbie discussed what could have been a very traumatic on-set experience with Jared Leto. She received a dead rat from him. She said, "At first I thought this was disgusting. But then after that...I was like, I'm not going to kill him. So I ended up keeping him as a pet. I ended up getting him, like, a sweet little playpen, a slide, a hammock, and a leash because I wanted to take him to set and walk him around." Most recently though, Jared Leto has denied the claims that he ever actually gave her a dead rat.

2 Scott Eastwood - 'Suicide Squad'

Suicide Squad was a major movie in 2016 and another member of the cast was Scott Eastwood who played Lieutenant GQ Edwards. Scott Eastwood talked about Jared Leto to E! News saying, "I was sort of afraid to approach him because I didn't want to mess with his thing going on. But I knew him before. I met him before he was The Joker. I just met him as Jared Leto. So I didn’t know if I wanted to mess up his thing." At least he got a normal introduction before filming began!

1 Jennifer Connelly - 'Requiem For A Dream'

A Requiem for a Dream is the super emotional and deep movie that Jennifer Connelly starred in alongside Jared Leto. The psychological thriller premiered in 2000 and focuses on two individuals struggling with addiction. Jennifer Connelly described working with Jared Leto based on the characters that they played going down a very scary downward spiral. Addiction to illegal substances is obviously a frightening topic but she was able to cover that topic with Jared Leto.
