One thing will never change and that’s acts of generosity from the iconic talk show host. Most recently she made a sizeable donation of $12 million, aiding in the stress caused by the ongoing pandemic.
This wasn’t Oprah’s first act of kindness, nor will it be her last. As we’ll come to realize throughout the list, she spends a lot of her capital on the support of others, whether it be random acts of kindness, supporting those in need, or just giving back to her employees. 11 $6.85 Million Ranch
As if a mansion in Montecito valued at a staggering $88 million wasn’t enough, Oprah added a stunning ranch under her resume as well, valued at a near $7 million.
According to HGTV, the massive property was previously owned by Jeff Bridges. It is unsure what Oprah plans to do with the property, if anything, it is another great real estate investment, one that’ll only increase in value as time goes by.
10 The Little Acts Of Kindness
Meeting Oprah wasn’t enough for Olufemi Yessoufou. He caught footage of Oprah in her personal ride – the iconic talk show host couldn’t help but notice that the student’s phone has a noticeable crack. Being the kind-hearted soul that she is, Oprah wanted to do something about it;
“We can’t have you out here viewing the world through a cracked screen or a cracked cover. The new camera you’re gonna love for sure!” Oprah followed up the statement, sending the boy a new camera, crack free!
9 Electric Cars For Everyone
Speaking of kind acts, Oprah decided to buy an entire graduating class electric cars. Ultimately, she purchased 75 Chevrolet Volts, for the high school class of Jerome Ross Academy. Alicia Walker, one of the students discussed her appreciation with Gish Gallop;
“I was like, ‘oh my god, I can’t believe this is happening, I am so grateful to Oprah. She literally is the best, next to my Daddy.”
8 Her Own Plane
This should not come as a surprise, as most billionaires do, they’ll invest in a plane, going from A to B a lot easier and quicker, compared to others. However, Oprah stated that back in 1991, a specific incident caused her to make the investment. She elaborated with Insider;
"One of the things that actually caused me in 1991 to get my own plane, I was in the airport and I was just minding my own business and a woman came up and she said, 'You're not acting like you do on TV.'"
7 The Mega Yacht
While she’s on vacation, Oprah is all about living the good life, and that includes time on a prestigious yacht over on the island of Ibiza, in Spain. Hola discusses one of the yachts Oprah recently enjoyed, it was luxury from head-to-toe;
“With five floors, 82 rooms and eight thousand square meters of living space, The Rising Sun, property of millionaire David Geffen is the summer vacay home that dreams are made of.”
6 Employees Vacation
Oprah tends to spoil those around her and in this case, that included her many employees. Oprah took over 100 colleagues on a prestigious trip, which lasted ten days. The pit-stops included Italy, Turkey, Greece, Spain, and Malta… basically a trip most of us can only dream of, heck heading to one of those destinations is a dream in itself!
According to The Guardian, the trip had a price tag of over 500,000 Euros.
5 Shopping Sprees
Just like the rest of us, Oprah chooses to spoil herself at times, though we assume the bill is a little pricier… the paparazzi were all over her spree at River Oaks District over in Houston. Oprah was all about the prestigious stores, as Paper City indicates;
“She is confirmed to have shopped at Brunello Cucinelli (she’s a devoted customer of the brand) and the Stella McCartney boutique.” The shopping spree took place right after her trip to Italy, the fun never ends!
4 Weight Watchers Investment
“Winfrey spent $43 million on Weight Watchers stock in October 2015, and since then, the price has soared from $7 a share to $101. That added $427 million to Winfrey's $4 billion fortune.”
Those are the words by Emily Canal with Inc. We can safely say that Oprah’s investment really took off, as she took Warren Buffett’s advice. The major key, Oprah believed in the product, which made the intention behind the investment that much greater.
3 True Food Kitchen
Another investment recently made by Oprah, she is set to join the board of directors along with taking on a consultant role with the brand True Kitchen Food. Once again, according to her words with CNN, she was inspired by her experience;
"When I first dined at True Food Kitchen, I was so impressed with the team's passion for healthy eating and, of course, the delicious food, that I knew I wanted to be part of the company's future."
2 OWN
Oprah getting her own network was a massive risk and huge investment. According to Reuters, it took a second for Discovery to turn a profit on the large risk. However, the network is finally reaping the rewards;
“OWN is now cash flow positive and starting to pay down the investment Discovery has made in the venture. We knew that OWN was working because ratings have been great. The fact that it is bouncing back into positive isn’t a huge surprise.”
