The King Midas of sitcoms, is that really too much to say? Chuck Lorre’s introduction has to have something to do with the Television industry. Lorre is credited with creating some of the most successful and diverting sitcoms in American Television history. Well, creation is just a part of it, Lorre is the man with a variety of roles to play in the overall development of the shows such as writing, creative designing, and of course production.
Chuck's Not Actually An Award Guy
The sitcom mastermind has been in the business for more than 3 decades, but to fan's dismay, Chuck has never received a Golden Globe until recently in 2019 for creating The Kominsky Method for Netflix. He earned the award for the best comedy after an extreme drought spanning 23 long years. However, it wasn't as fruitless in terms of nominations, Lorre received multiple nominations for Two & A Half Men and The Big Bang Theory during this period.
His work speaks volumes of his achievements, Lorre received his star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in the year 2009. Following the honor, 3 years later, he was again inducted into Television Academy Hall of Fame.
Mom Proved He Was An Auteur All Along
Chuck Lorre is no doubt one of the best but he could not quite reach the title 'auteur.' He had to come up with Mom, arguably his most ambitious project to date, to make his name as an auteur. Probably he was always one but it just took Mom to authenticate it.
In an interview with IndieWire talking about Mom, Lorre said, “Broken people trying to repair their lives, I can relate to that, I know a lot of people that can relate to the comedy in the repair business of a person’s life. I think we’re all in the process of doing a little mending.”
Chuck Knows What's Entertaining For Audiences
Let’s get straight to it. Chuck Lorre is dubbed as “The King Of Sitcoms” for several different reasons. The primary one being his flawless reading of the audience mood. No kidding, Chuck knows what to deliver to the television audience and probably, he does it better than anyone else in the industry. This also explains why more often than not, he is the writer of his stories.
His creations in the form of Cybil, Two & A Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly... highlight the fact that Lorre has different pills for different individuals. Although all of his shows are intelligent comedies, the underlying concepts pushing their development are just worlds apart.
Chuck identified it in the very beginning, as The Big Bang Theory was drawing to an end, that the audience was looking for something fresh, never-seen-before kind of comedy and to deliver the best, he rolled out The Kominsky Method starring the legend Michael Douglas. The Kominsky Method is a unique comedy on a mindfully chosen platform, Netflix. Yes, Chuck knew online streaming was getting more heads than old school television.
Chuck's coming up with new projects - The United States of AI and B Positive. Not much is revealed about the shows but they are probably going to be booming this decade, given Chuck's work history.
