Angus T. Jones was once the highest paid child star. However, his run on Two and a Half Men would come to an end, with Charlie Sheen putting the blame on Chuck Lorre for Jones' demise on the series.
In the end, Angus T. Jones made his return for the finale, one that fans had a blast with. We'll take a look back at how the return took place behind the scenes, and if there were any difficulties in getting Jake back for the last episode.
In addition, we're also going to take a look at how Charlie Sheen almost returned for the final episode, and why negotiations ended up breaking down at the last minute.
Angus T. Jones Left Two And A Half Men On Bad Terms
Less than two years after Charlie Sheen's departure, it seemed as though Angus T. Jones was also going off the rails, looking back at his time on the show. The actor went on a rant, telling fans to stop watching the show, and how his character meant nothing to him given that it was all fiction.
He said in his lengthy rant, “Jake from Two and a Half Men means nothing. He is a non-existent character."
“If you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I’m on Two and a Half Men and I don’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it and filling your head with filth. People say it’s just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you’ll have a decision to make when it comes to television, especially with what you watch.”
In the years that would follow, the actor went back on his words, apologizing to the show. However, a return still seemed unlikely at that point.
Despite the failing out, Angus T. Jones was able to return for the finale, and fans were surprised as to how it all went down.
Angus T. Jones Jumped On The Opportunity To Return After Getting Contacted By Chuck Lorre
No, there wasn't some lengthy and complicated negotiation to get Angus T. Jones back for the finale. Instead, according to Chuck Lorre, the process was a smooth one, as the actor humped at the opportunity after getting the offer.
Lorre explained, "That was an absolute blast. We had a great opportunity to put him in this. We reached out to him, he’s in college now, and he jumped on it."
"We had so much fun that week; it was so much fun working with him again. He’s a terrific guy. When he stepped on to the stage, the place went nuts. It was a great moment, a funny and warm moment for everyone on the show."
Fans also adored Jake's return to the show, especially the spin on what he was doing, just having won millions thanks to gambling money from his uncle Charlie.
It was a well-received return and the highlight of the closing episode. However, another return almost took place behind the scenes and one fans wanted to see just as much.
Charlie Sheen Also Came Close To Returning For The Finale, But Creative Differences Shut It Down
There was lots of talk about Sheen returning for the finale, and it came very close to taking place, with both sides willing to talk.
Ultimately it was creative differences that set the two sides apart. Lorre had his vision, while Charlie wanted an emotional reunion with Jon Cryer, and one that gave way to a future spin-off, The Harpers.
“Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only applied to average people. And then we would drop a piano on him. We thought it was funny. He didn’t."
Sheen had an ending of his own and one fans might've enjoyed, "Instead, he wanted us to write a heart warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called The Harpers starring him and Jon Cryer.”
It's a shame things didn't work for the finale.
