It's a dream for many people: move to New York City, find an incredible apartment (or at least one that doesn't break the bank too much), and get an amazing job. Some are able to achieve this and others burn out after a few years in the Big Apple as the fast-paced city might not for everyone.
Whitney Port, star of The Hills, always wanted to work in fashion in NYC. The mom has shared her postpartum body struggles and fans like catching up with her on Instagram and on her podcast "With Whit." When people think about The Hills, they imagine the fight between best friends Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag, or some of the dating problems that the cast members experienced.
But Whitney Port had her own story and she appeared on the spin-off The City. While living in Manhattan, she met socialite and coworker Olivia Palermo. The two have spoken about The City in recent years, so let's take a look at what they have said.
Whitney's Story
People wonder if Conrad liked The Hills and it's also interesting to see what Whitney Port thought of The City.
The show aired for two seasons on MTV from 2008 until 2010. Port got a job at Dione von Furstenberg, found a cute apartment, hung out with a group of girlfriends, and started seeing a guy named Jay Lyon.
Port told Grazia Magazine that it was a good experience being on The Hills and The City. She said, "It was such an amazing time in our lives. There were so many amazing things I got to do and people I got to work with and cities I got to travel to. Yes, it was such a wonderful experience and I have to thank it for so much of where I’m at today.”
Port has recently started watching old episodes of The City with her husband, Tim Rosenman, for a YouTube series "Reacting to The City." According to Yahoo! News, the husband and wife team wear sweatpants in the video and talk about each episode as they watch it. The first video, of course, is about the pilot, and Port is extremely honest.
In the first video, Port isn't afraid to laugh at herself and how silly the show seems at times. In one scene, Port met Palermo for the first time, and Port's husband asked, "Were you doing a voice?" Port said, "Oh my god, this is painful."
Port also said that her relationship with Lyon was real.
It seems like Port has pretty positive things to say about her time on The City, but she has no problem poking fun at her younger self, which is super charming.
How Olivia Feels
Olivia Palermo said that she wasn't who she was portrayed to be on The City.
According to Cheat Sheet, Palermo explained, "It was fully phony. There was nothing real about that show at all. Other than our first and last names. Nothing. Absolutely zero."
Palermo also said, "Whoever sat in that editing room was very talented at creating a human that I was the polar opposite of."
Viewers will recall that the two reality stars had some conflict between them from the very start, so it's interesting to hear Palermo to say that she was different from her portrayal.
Living In Front Of The Camera
It sounds like both Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo wouldn't want to go back on reality TV.
In an interview with The Cut in 2010, Port said that when she was a cast member on The Hills, she was dating someone who wasn't on the TV show. She said that when she was on The City, she did put her love story on camera: Port explained, "But once I moved to New York I lived out a whole relationship in front of the camera, so I totally learned my lesson, and I just don’t think I could put myself in that position again."
According to MTV, when asked if she would be happy to do a reboot or new version of The City, Palermo wasn't interested. She said, "No, no, I wouldn't. [It was] a learning experience I got out of the way early."
Today, both Port and Palermo are married and definitely living a post-reality TV life. Port married her husband in 2015 and they are parents to their little boy Sonny. Palermo got married to Johannes Huebl in 2014 and, according to Observer.com, the couple bought a condo for $2.95 million at the Clock Tower, which is located in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
