Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus’ relationship produced some of the biggest names in the music industry currently, with their daughters, Miley and Noah Cyrus, both having thriving music careers. The pair were married for 28 years before they finalized their divorce in 2022, after years of being on-and-off.
However, it didn’t take either Billy Ray or Tish long to move on, romantically speaking. The exes both began seeing other people shortly after their divorce was confirmed, and Tish recently announced her engagement.
Considering their long history, many fans wonder if Billy Ray is having a hard time seeing his ex-wife engaged to someone new. Billy Ray Cyrus’ Ex-Wife Got Engaged Shortly After He Did
Tish, 55, announced her engagement to Prison Break alum Dominic Purcell, 53, at the end of April, a year after going public with their romance. “A thousand times…. YES,” she captioned an Instagram photo showing off her square-shaped diamond.
The photo attracted a ton of congratulatory reactions, including from Dominic’s daughter, Audrey Purcell, 22, who shared the photo to her Instagram story and gushed over the couple. “Thank you for being such a beautiful example of love. I love you both so much forever,” she wrote.
Both Dominic and Tish have multiple children from previous relationships. In addition to Audrey, Dominic shares a younger daughter, Rose, 19, with his ex-wife Rebecca Williamson. They were married from 1998 to 2008.
For her part, Tish shares five children with her ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus, including singers Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus.
The former couple were married from 1993 to 2022. They originally filed for divorce in 2010, saying at the time, "As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family... We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."
However, the parents-of-five went on to call off their divorce the following year. Tish later filed for divorce again in 2013, only to call it off within a few months amid reports they were attending couple’s therapy.
Nearly a decade later, Tish filed for divorce against in 2022. She claimed in court documents she’d been separate from Billy for two years. Their divorce was finalized the same year.
Given that they’ve only been divorced for a year (especially considering they shared 28 years of marriage) Tish’s engagement news may seem rushed. But Billy Ray actually got engaged first, within only a few months of their legal separation.
The country crooner announced he was engaged to Australian singer Firerose in November 2022 in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. He revealed they’d been engaged since that August. “Billy looked at me and said, ‘Do you, do you wanna marry me?’ And I was just like, ‘Of course I do. I love you,’” Firerose said of their engagement. “He said, ‘I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever.”
Billy Ray Says There Are “No Hard Feelings” After Their Divorce
There was speculation over how Tish felt about her ex-husband’s engagement news, considering it happened soon quickly after their divorce. Billy Ray responded to the rumors shortly after the PEOPLE interview was released to clarify that there were “no hard feelings” in his family.
“There’s no hard feelings. Everyone knew that relationship was over a long time ago,” the singer said, referring to his marriage to Tish. “Everyone’s turning the page. It’s been a lot, but everyone knew that it was time for a change,” he continued.
Given that Tish apparently had no negative feelings towards Billy Ray’s engagement, it’s likely that he also doesn’t harbor any hard feelings now that she’s engaged to someone, too.
Miley Cyrus Is Happy Both Of Her Parents Are Moving On
Naturally, there’s also been speculation over how Miley Cyrus feels about her parents being engaged to other people, especially since they were married for so long. Luckily, it appears the pop star is supportive of their new romances.
Speaking to Us Weekly, a source said that Miley – who finalized her own divorce from actor Liam Hemsworth in 2020 – is happy for the newly engaged couple.
“Miley is so grateful that she’s found someone she loves with all her heart,” they revealed. “Dominic makes her mom so happy, and Miley loves seeing her mom smiling and laughing all the time. Miley couldn’t be more excited for them.”
Though they shared nearly three decades of marriage, it seems safe to say that the Cyrus family is happy to see both Billy Ray and Tish in thriving relationships. And the family is going to have a lot of weddings in the near future!
