The Disney Channel Movie 'Camp Rock' Was Released In 2008

The musical comedy Camp Rock premiered on the Disney Channel on June 20, 2008. Apart from Demi Lovato who portrayed Mitchie Torres, the movie's cast included the Jonas Brothers, Meaghan Martin, Maria Canals-Barrera, Daniel Fathers, and Alyson Stoner. Camp Rock tells the story of a young girl who aspires to be a singer, and it follows her time at a summer music camp called Camp Rock.

The movie was a huge success, and it was watched by 8.9 million viewers on the night of its premiere. Camp Rock ended up getting a sequel titled Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, which premiered on September 3, 2010, on the Disney Channel.

Demi Lovato Thinks They Were "Awkward" In 'Camp Rock', But They Like The Music

In July 2020, Demi Lovato rewatched the Camp Rock movies, and they shared their opinions about them on their Instagram stories. While Camp Rock has since become a Disney Channel classic, the musician seems to think that their portrayal of Mitchie Torres is "awkward."

The singer shared a scene in which they stars alongside Alyson Stoner on their Instagram stories and in the caption they wrote "the amount of awkward f—ing things I did in this movie… I can’t." The singer went on to also poke fun at a scene in which they can be seen alongside singer Joe Jonas. "I told yall – how awkward am I?!!!", Demi wrote.

It seems as if the singer cringed a lot while watching their younger self on the screen, but fans would definitely agree that Demi Lovato is being too harsh. After all, the singer was only 15 years old when the first movie premiered, and considering that they continued working with Disney for years — they must have done something right.

While Demi Lovato seems to have cringed at numerous things while watching Camp Rock, one thing the singer liked was the music. Lovato shared a clip of themselves performing the song "Our Time Is Here", and they captioned it with "this s–t still slaps not gonna lie…" It seems as if Demi Lovato is definitely proud of the music they got to work on while shooting the movie, and fans couldn't agree more.

Demi Lovato Was In Love With Joe Jonas

As fans know, Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas — who starred alongside each other in Camp Rock — ended up dating from October 2009 until May 2010. On their YouTube Channel, Demi Lovato shared a video of herself reacting to a scene in which she fell in love with Joe Jonas.

The singer said "Oh my god, wait. This moment here, I freaking fell in love with him, in real life." To that, their friend responded that Lovato is good at acting, to which Lovato replied "thanks, I wasn’t acting much. We had our first kiss on camera."

Demi Lovato Wants An R-Rated Version Of 'Camp Rock'

"We want to come out with an R-Rated Camp Rock 3. I mean, all of our fans have now grown up and so anybody that watched Camp Rock is now older and can appreciate it."

While it was never confirmed that a third Camp Rock installment is in the plans, it's safe to say that fans would be thrilled to see a project like that come to life. And Demi Lovato is certainly not wrong — most fans of Camp Rock have grown up since the movie's release which is why an R-Rated version might be more appropriate. However, it's hard to believe that Disney would approve of that, and at the end of the day fans would most likely be pleased with any kind of sequel, regardless of its rating.
