8 'The Kids In The Hall' Soon Became A Cult Classic

Thanks to the widespread distribution both during the show's run and after the show's 1995 cancelation, The Kids In The Hall found its niche with Avante-Garde and dark comedy fans. The show is darker than SNL but less raunchy than MadTV, allowing them to find an audience that is somewhere in between the mainstream and the cutting edge. 7 The 'Kids In The Hall' Cast Members Ended Up With Thriving Solo Careers

Understated yet edgy, that might be the best way to summarize both the show and the careers of the cast members after the original show ended. Dave Foley made his rounds in several television shows, including Scrubs and news radio. However, most people will remember Foley for loaning his voice to Pixar's A Bug's Life. Kevin McDonald is also a prominent voice actor now, and titles on his resume include Lilo and Stich and Invader Zim. Bruce McCulloch has pursued more films than he has on television, fans might recognize him from Stealing Harvard, Superstar, and Comeback Season. Mark McKinney was also in Superstar as well as another movie based on SNL skits, A Night at The Roxbury. Modern audiences might recognize McKinney best as Glenn from Superstore. Scott Thomspon is the one in the group who does more off-camera work, in addition to acting he has written several books, including a biography of comedian Buddy Cole.

5 Lorne Michaels Stepped Up To Produce The 'Kids In The Hall' Again

It is fair to say that one catalyst for the show's revival was Lorne Michaels. Not many people realize that Michaels produced the original show (Michaels is Canadian too) and Michaels has become an institution in comedy television as the producer of not just SNL but also 30 Rock and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Michaels is one who typically works closely with the cast members of his shows, often helping them by producing their films and other side projects, as he did with Chris Farley on Tommy Boy or Portlandia with Fred Armisen. How instrumental Michaels will be in the series remains to be seen, but fans can thank the comedy kingpin for helping bring back this cult classic.
