Victoria Beckham may have given up on her singing career about two decades ago, but this pop star-turned-fashion designer is still earning a fortune thanks to her successful stint as part of the ‘90s girl group Spice Girls. Alongside her former band members, Mel C, Mel B, Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell, the girls became one of the biggest acts in music during their heyday, with endless hits, including Wannabe and 2 Become 1.
While the group hasn’t put out an album since 2000’s Forever, their third and final record without Halliwell, they ended up reuniting in 2007 for a world tour, appropriately titled The Return of the Spice Girls Tour, which commenced in December that year. With 47 shows and two legs under their belt, Beckham and her band members accumulated over $70 million at the box office after wrapping their final show in February 2008.
Their music continues to earn them plenty of plays on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, and since they own some of the publishing, it’s fair to say that the Spice Girls will always earn a nice chunk of money simply because of how well Spice Girls music, merchandise, and ticket sales continue to soar, even 20 years after their final album.
How Much Did Victoria Make From Music In 2020?
Beckham’s last major gig where she was “singing” was at the 2012 London Olympics, where the Spice Girls were invited to perform a medley of their hits.
It was said at the time that the mother-of-three vowed to never return to the stage again, with sources saying Beckham loved getting back to her roots, but her main focus had now moved over to fashion. She reportedly knew she didn’t want to perform again after the Olympics and wanted the moment to feel special, which it certainly did.
So, despite not having been part of the music scene for a very long time, The Sun reported in March 2022 that Beckham was still able to pull in $570,000 in earnings.
Considering that she was paid the hefty sum for practically doing nothing goes to show just how successful the Spice Girls brand continues to be just from merchandise and publishing alone.
Did Victoria Make Money From The Spice Girls Reunion Tour?
Yes, she did.
Beckham was not part of the Spice Girls reunion in 2019 because she had already stressed that performing wasn’t her thing anymore; she had switched her career over to fashion and considered a lengthy tour to be quite the distraction to her day-to-day errands that help keep her businesses afloat.
It’s no secret that the Viva Forever hitmaker hasn’t had all that much luck with her fashion company, which is believed to have racked up more than $62 million in losses. In 2021, for example, Beckham accumulated another $21 million in losses while her husband’s Footwork Production Ltd was booming with a $42 million profit.
So, it’s understandable why Beckham wouldn’t want to tour. She doesn’t deem herself a singer and wouldn’t have made more than $7 million had she taken part, which is probably not enough for someone who is worth $450 million with her husband’s net worth combined.
While she didn’t tour with the girls in 2019, she still took home a sizable paycheck.
Leading up to the tour, the Spice Girls Limited company had seen a drastic rise in profits, which meant Beckham was walking away with a hefty payment.
“This means the rest of the group will have to hand over a huge amount to Posh on the back of the old magic they conjured up,” a source told The Sun.
“The irony of the payout is that Victoria has become distanced from the Spice Girls as she’s tried to carve out a niche as a fashion designer.
The insider continued: “But they have become a major source of her income once again as the clothes line falters.”
New Tour With Victoria?
In November 2021, it was reported that the Spice Girls were in talks for another reunion tour for 2023, but this time, Beckham would be joining the girls on the road.
Of course, this report has not been confirmed, so it should be taken with a grain of salt — but from what The Sun has gathered, there have been active discussions to get back on tour, and if Beckham was to return, there’d be even more money on the table for all five of them.
“The four girls have been discussing a world tour for a while, and this – very confidential – meeting was put in the diary so they could iron out the final details,” the source gushed.
The Spice Girls have sold over 100 million records to date, and are therefore one of the most successful girl bands of all time.
