Margot Robbie is one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, with a growing net worth of $22 million thanks to a handful of blockbuster hits including I, Tonya, Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, and of course, Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

In the film, Robbie plays Jordan Belfort’s love interest, Naomi Lapaglia, and while she didn’t carry a major role in the motion picture, cinema-goers were already familiar with the actress’ work, who spent three years portraying the role of Donna Freedman on Neighbours.

Still, despite her experience, the blonde bombshell was only paid a fraction of the amount Leonardo DiCaprio received. So how much did she end up making and where else has she been accumulating her fortune from?

How Much Was She Paid For TWOWS

While The Wolf of Wall Street was undoubtedly Robbie’s breakthrough role in Hollywood, Robbie had already built up an impressive resume from her starring role in the TV series Pan Am and 2013’s comedy-drama About Time alongside Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson.

The role, which ended up seeing Robbie take home the Empire Award for Best Newcomer, brought along many opportunities soon after, but fans may be surprised to hear that the Aussie native only made $347,000 from the movie.

Of course, that’s still a significant sum, but considering how the flick pulled in over $390 million at the box office, one would have assumed she was paid more than what she ended up receiving.

Still, Robbie wasn’t complaining. She only had one hit movie under her belt before signing on for the project, so she certainly couldn’t have expected to receive similar salaries to what the likes of what DiCaprio was making.

The Vigilante star, in an interview with IndieWire in 2014, said that she didn’t even know acting was something people can make a living from, adding that while she took part in Australia’s Neighbours, she would have never imagined having reached such career heights across the pond.

“Yes, well when I was planning my move to America I was living in Melbourne working on Neighbours,” she said. “I worked on the show for three years, and it was probably a couple months into it when I decided. Up until then I had no idea that you could even do acting as a career, or that people could make a living out of it.”

“It was just kind of like this fairy tale sort of life, so once I met people who were doing that as a career and could actually live off it, I started thinking, ‘Okay, what’s the next step?’ America’s really the furthest you could go, because there’s really a limited industry in Australia.”

DiCaprio reportedly signed a $10 million deal to portray the role of Belfort, which doesn’t come as a surprise considering how he’s one of the highest-paid actors in the film industry.

For Robbie, she was just grateful to have had the experience of working with such an incredible cast and crew, which propelled her to become the superstar she is today.

Her follow-up projects saw Robbie’s salary increase to a whopping $667,000 in 2015’s Focus and Z for Zachariah, which was almost double the amount she made in TWOWS, but she had yet to come across a project that was going to pay her enough money she could probably retire with.

And while she continued seeing box office success with films such as Terminal, Dreamland, and Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, Robbie received her biggest payday to date when Warner Bros. Pictures announced plans to develop Harley Quinn’s very own movie.

Robbie first played the character in 2016’s underwhelming Suicide Squad, but when news of its spin-off movie came about, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, the actress reportedly signed a deal that was said to have been worth an estimated $9 million.

Yet despite the hefty sum of money that came with portraying the role, the film was not well-received with critics and die-hard fans, who described the film as “boring” and “unoriginal.”

Robbie will reprise the character for 2021’s The Suicide Squad while another Harley Quinn project is said to be in development for 2022, so if she’s already pulling $9 million, it’s fair to assume she will make similar numbers this time around too.

It should also be noted that even though fans weren’t satisfied with the story of Suicide Squad, it still earned a ton of money at the box office - $746 million, to be exact.

Her next film, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, hits theaters in January 2021.
