Over time, viewers have shown a strong penchant for survival reality TV shows, from Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid, to Out of The Wild, Man vs Wild, as well as Popular Emmy-winning Survivor. Netflix is no stranger to reality TV shows. When they debuted Snowflake Mountain, a new reality series portraying spoiled and over-the-top Gen Z brats in a plethora of survival challenges designed by trained military survival experts in the wilderness, it got viewers' attention.RELATED: Will There Be A Season 2 Of Netflix's 'The Ultimatum'?The 19-26 year-old contestants who have never worked a day in their lives, were in for a big surprise, when they found out in the opening episode that they'd been tricked into believing that they were heading to paradise and would have the time of their lives. A worthy contestant would get to walk away $50,000 richer.Having just premiered in June 2022 and already garnered a huge momentum in viewing charts, Snowflake Mountain has received quite a lot of criticism. Some posited it as being flawed in its title, in terms of survivability and just uncharacteristically bad. However, one thing these contestants have effortlessly been able to do is entertain on so many levels. Viewers might never be able to forget this show for a very long time. Now, having to whip these dependents into independents, this leaves room for questions about how the 10 spoiled young adults were chosen by Netflix for Snowflake Mountain and the premise for their selection.

8 Netflix Assembled Reality Star Material

The 8-episode series was enough to give out all the information needed: that these contestants had all the sass and drama to make the show a worthwhile watch. From sharp-tongued and drama-full Solomon, to whiny Devon, to Alpha male Carl, to funny and spirit-lifting Rae and dramatic cheerleader Deandra, these contestants did not disappoint not for a second. It only makes sense that the reality stars are still in the public eye and keeping viewers wondering, even after the cameras have stopped rolling.

7 Netflix Chose A Diverse International Cast

What really stands out in the dynamism of Netflix's casting is the diversity. All 10 Snowflake Mountain contestants are a diverse bunch of Gen-Zs from the United Kingdom and the USA. The majority of the cast are from the USA, as only 2 contestants, Rae and Liam, hail from the UK.

6 Where Snowflake Mountain Was Filmed Helped The Casting

Although a significant number of the contestants came from the United States, the whole show was filmed in the UK. Viewers got to see the action happen in the Lake District located in Cumbria, North West England. Most of the show was shot on a private estate called Graythwaite Estate, and the contestants camped out on the 5,000 acres of land around the estate.

5 Choosing The Contestants Came Down To The Nitty Gritty

Casting the contestants for Snowflake Mountain was pretty much tight-lipped when it was announced, as nothing expressly indicated that Netflix had been accepting casting submissions. However, Netflix's description read that they wanted "a fun bunch of clueless kidults who aren't yet living to their full potential." The young adults would learn how to be responsible, stripping them of all material items, and leaving them without running water, Wi-Fi, and parents to attend to their needs.

4 The Contestant's Parents Instigated The Whole Thing

In an interview with BBC Radio Cumbria, show's contestant Liam, detailed his experiences in the wilderness and spoke about how all the contestants were tricked going into the show. He said, "We were all tricked into thinking we were going on a party show. It was called Living Your Best Life, so we thought we'd be partying and making loads of friends." It's best to say the parents reached their breaking points.

3 Personality And Sellable Characters Sold Netflix

It would not be a reality show, if there wasn't a short-lived crush, tantrums, chaos, personality clashes and outright controversial contestants. The cast has sparked rounds of conversations on social media, leaving fans either rooting for them or just not liking them. A Twitter user said, "Solomon on #SnowflakeMountain is really pissing me off," another user said, "Rae needs a spinoff show."

2 How Was The Snowflake Mountain Winner Picked?

Hosts of the sow and survival experts Matt Tate and Joel Graves picked three finalists in the finale who qualified for the $50,000 grand prize. According to them, these three contestants Deandra, Sunny and Liam, showed the most growth over the course of the show. The remaining contestants were left with the ultimate decision of choosing who deserved the prize. The group chose Deandra, as she pushed herself beyond her comfort zone and grew exponentially on the show.

1 Netflix Needed To Get Viewers Excited…And They Did

Before Snowflake Mountain premiered, viewers had already shown considerable interest in the show. In a now deleted tweet, a user said, "Working on day drinking and I stumbled upon a show coming in 2022…. Snowflake Mountain. Oh man, that sounds great!" With its premiere, the show has given viewers so much to talk about. While there are no details or confirmation of another season, momentum the show has garnered so far might fuel subsequent seasons. A fan of the show commented via social media, "#Snowflake Mountain is way better than I thought it would be. Went into it hesitant and the characters are growing on me."
