Moroccan Scott Cannon is not Mariah Carey's only child, she is a mom to twins. She also has a daughter, Monroe, who she shares with her ex-husband, Nick Cannon. Being celebrity children have afforded them a life of luxury and there is no denying that the twins have traveled to some beautiful places and experienced some exceptional things. They are also not shy about asking their mama for things that they want.

Despite this, Carey is trying to ensure that her children understand their blessings and how they live a privileged life. One that is far different from her childhood.

Is Mariah Carey A Cool Mom?

Carey wants to be a "cool mom" to Moroccan and Monroe (Monroe is reportedly named after Marilyn Monroe and Moroccan is a phonetic combination of Nick and Mariah's names, according to Nick Cannon). But she understands that there is a time and a place for this, and although she has to be tough and be the bad guy at times, she is willing to do it. Speaking in a 2021 interview with Us Weekly, Carey opened up about her parenting style in a candid way.

"I'm going to have to quote Mean Girls and be, like, 'I'm not a regular mom. I'm a cool mom.' There are no rules in this house," she said. "No, there are rules in this house, that's the difference. Like, I want to be that — I don't like being the bad guy, I have to say. I really don't, like, I hate that more than anything. So, you know, I do want to be, like, 'I'm not really a mom, I'm a cool mom.' But you're never a cool mom, like, you just never are."

As easy as it would be to not set boundaries and to never say "no" or see her children disappointed, Carey understands that sometimes you have to make tough decisions. That is not to say she does not acknowledge that her twins have enjoyed many advantages.

Do Moroccan and Monroe Cannon Live The Life Of Luxury Everyone Assumes They Do?

Mariah Carey's kids are aware of her success but perhaps do not fully grasp how much they have benefited from it. Christmas in this household is a big thing. After all, one of Mariah Carey's most memorable songs is a holiday-themed track, so it makes sense that they would go all out during the holidays. In the same interview, Carey commented on her children's wish lists from Santa Claus, so you can imagine they live a pretty charmed life.

"My daughter's Christmas list is like 66 items, and I'm not lying. She texted it to me. I was like, 'Are you kidding me?'" Carey said. In contrast, Moroccan wanted "one very costly item" that his mama was determined to get for him. But the singer is completely aware of the fact that her children get more than most, and she wants them to understand that they are fortunate because not everyone grows up with what they have. She didn't.

"Everything is over the top, but you know what? I feel like I need them to know that that’s a big deal, that not everybody has that," she said of their Christmases. "But I also didn't grow up with... sometimes it was a wrapped-up orange that I got. So it's, like, I didn't grow up with all the gifts in the land. I kind of love making their holidays great."

How Was Mariah Carey's Childhood Different?

This is not the first time Mariah Carey has addressed the luxuries in her children's lives, and believe it or not, she does not want them to be spoiled. In 2019, she discussed her approach to parenting in an interview with People Magazine, noting how different her own childhood was in comparison.

"It's hard, but I try to keep them grounded, so they don't think everything is just handed to them," she said. "Right now it's like, 'I want this,' and I'm like, 'You're asking me for something that costs $20.' I can't even imagine having, like, one dollar as a kid because we didn't have money going around. So they have to appreciate those things."

A positive thing that Carey has taken from her childhood is her ability to be resilient and make the most out of less favorable situations. She told the publication that she tries "to make the best of whatever situation I'm in," adding, "Sometimes I had a lot of fun, sometimes I didn't."

Before the twins were even born there were reports that their lives were going to be filled with only the finest things in life. Reports about their extravagant nursery circled in 2011, with Metro reporting that it was believed Carey was transforming an entire wing in her home to become the nursery.

"Mariah wanted 18-carat gold trim with ivory walls, soft furnishings, and walk-in wardrobes full of Petit Trésor designer clothes," a source told the publication. "There's a top-of-the-range sound system, and they'll each have diamond-encrusted iPods and a flatscreen TV that comes down from the ceiling." This is obviously too much for any newborn, but outlandish claims often follow Mariah Carey, some completely unfounded, and others true. For example, when she was giving birth she reportedly did so to a soundtrack of her singing.

Nick Cannon was the one to reveal this bit of information during an appearance on The Gayle King Show (via NME). "My wife wanted to make sure that when the babies came out, that they came out not only to a Mariah Carey song but a live performance from Mariah Carey – her Madison Square performance of 'Fantasy' – so they came out to a round of applause." Cannon saw the humor in this situation, adding, "Of course, we've got to keep our celebrity weirdness up."
