During her time in the spotlight, Selena Gomez has been a poster child for self-love, ignoring the haters, and living life with no regrets. It hasn't been easy for the star, though. Fans already know that Selena hates giving interviews, and an interaction with a "rude" interviewer during her Rare tour topped things off.But after taking a closer look at the situation, some suggest the clip and Selena's reaction to the interviewer just plain make her look bad.

Selena Showed A Clip Of An Interviewer "Being Rude To Her"

In Selena's documentary, some footage is dedicated to an interview she did with a French journalist. Buzzfeed titled its article, "Selena Gomez Showed A Clip Of An Interviewer Being Rude In Her New Documentary And It’s Eye-Opening," and fans agreed.

Yet those discussing the clip interpreted things very differently than Buzzfeed and Selena herself.

The footage stems from a press tour Selena completed, where multiple interviewers took turns asking her all the questions they wanted. Some were mundane, and some went a little deeper.

In the scene, an interviewer asks Selena what else she'd like to do, professionally, since she's already a singer, actor, and fashionista.

Selena's reply is that she hopes to keep doing a little of everything, but she also touches on her plans for retirement, where she will focus on philanthropy.

Immediately after receiving the answer to that question, the journalist says, "Ok that's it for me," and gets up to leave. Buzzfeed quoted Selena as replying, "Appreciate it. Felt like you really understood," though the interviewer had already left.

Selena seemed to make a face, then afterward, cried in her dressing room about how rude the interviewer was, and said, among other things, "Do you know how cheap it makes me feel? She's asking me questions — good ones — and then she didn't even pay attention to what I was saying."

After watching the scenes, fans weren't sure Buzzfeed had the right idea.

Fans Heavily Judged Selena's Reaction To The Interview

Buzzfeed and many others were sympathetic to Selena's feelings about the interviewer abruptly cutting their time short. And it's not lost on fans that Selena's personal life has previously become tabloid fodder, which can't be easy.

But many fans disagreed that the interviewer was "rude," suggesting that Selena was taking things a bit too personally. In fact, some think she was in the wrong for her reaction to the interview and wasn't being fair to her interviewer.

One person wrote, "I’m sure the interviewer was told to hurry," which makes sense given that multiple journalists were in line to talk to Gomez.

They continued, "I think in this scene (which Buzzfeed don’t exactly cover to its full extent) Selena was actually the one who was rude."

Another person chimed in to say, "She should have said thank you, but Selena making a bunch of passive aggressive comments just because the interviewer didn't want to talk about her philanthropy - especially when her answer was flat and she was making it very clear she didn't want to be answering questions - was pretty rude.

Some fans did support Selena, calling the interviewer rude for not even saying thank you.

But one fan highlighted a different perspective, based on where the interviewer was from.

They noted, "Speaking from experience, it’s not considered 'rude' and 'unprofessional' to not say 'thank you for your time' in France. It doesn’t translate cross-culturally the way you want it to. You can’t judge the entire world based on American standards, business, and social customs."

Could the whole thing just be a big misunderstanding that was then edited for production value in My Mind & Me?

What Is Selena Like In Real Life?

Given how friendly she seems to be to fans and how much she cares about interacting with people, fans can assume Selena Gomez is truly a nice person.

Commenters thought part of her intense reaction to the interview from My Mind & Me could be Selena's perception that people see her as a commodity.

Because she's been in the spotlight for so long, and dealt with so much criticism and people focusing on the surface level, she might be a bit defensive. And if that's the case, fans definitely can't blame her for being offended by an interviewer who came across as if she didn't care about Selena's passions.

It's also assumed that Selena deleted some scenes from My Mind & Me,
