There was a time when Howard Stern and former President Donald Trump were friends. Or, at the very least, 'friendly'. Trump was a frequent guest on The Howard Stern Show for decades. The pair even attended each other's respective weddings. But this was during a time when they saw eye-to-eye on politics. AKA when they were both Democrats/Independents.
Once Stern and Trump's friendship dissolved, the former frequently bashed the latter on his show. Stern was appalled by many of Trump's political positions while both campaigning and being the President. Despite never shying away from taking down a celebrity who badmouthed him, Trump was oddly silent whenever Stern attacked him.
However, this changed in September 2023, when Trump disparaged Stern on Truth Social. Stern's response, however, was even more cutting. Most notably, an insult to Trump's controversial relationship with his daughter, Ivanka.
What Did Donald Trump Say About Howard Stern?
Donald Trump never shied away from insulting a celebrity who publicly badmouthed him or disagreed with his political positions. But it took until 2023 for him to do that to his former friend, Howard Stern. This is despite the fact that Stern constantly insulted (and still does) the former president. Stern even has an array of Trump impersonators with whom he argues and insults on his SiriusXM radio show.
In one situation, Trump had his son, Donald Trump Jr., try and dig up dirt on the acclaimed radio host. However, Trump Jr.'s attempt to take down the self-proclaimed King of All Media backfired. The dirt failed to land and Stern absolutely eviscerated the "nepo-baby" on air.
But in September 2023, things changed...
Following an on-air rant about being woke, Stern found himself at the barrel end of Trump's gun. During one of his mid-September broadcasts, Stern claimed to be "Woke" despite not actually knowing what the word meant.
According to Stern, he thought "woke" meant being in touch with other people's experiences, being open to different lifestyles, and being anti-Trump.
"I went on air and said that I'm 'woke'. Look, I'll tell you the truth, I don't now what 'woke' means," Stern admitted on September 25th. "By the way, when I said this on the air, I never, ever thought that anyone would care that I'm saying this. It shocks me that the dumbest s*** that I talk about becomes somehow news. It's weird."
Stern went on to say that he guesses he is "woke" because he's not "mad" at Bud Light for their scandal with a trans-activist. He also claimed he thinks he may be 'woke' because he loves the COVID-19 vaccine, gay rights, climate change policies, and social security, and believes that Trump lost the 2020 election.
The rant made huge news, much to Stern's surprise. And even got Trump all riled up.
Despite the media firestorm, Howard Stern claimed to have been unaware of Trump's Truth Social comments about him until it was pointed out by his friends.
"Donald Trump was writing about me [saying] I'm a 'broken weirdo', and I'm not loyal to him. Which is bizarre. I don't work for you. Why would I be loyal to you? I don't even know what he's talking about," Howard Stern said to his audience and his co-host Robin Quivers during his September 25th broadcast.
Following the media reaction to Stern claiming he was "woke", Donald Trump took to Truth Social to write the following about Stern:
“The real Howard Stern is a weak, pathetic, and disloyal guy, who lost his friends and MUCH of his audience. Until just recently, I haven't heard his name mentioned in years. I did his show many times in the good old days, and then he went Woke, and nobody cares about him any longer. I don't know what they (really!) pay him, but it shouldn't be much. His influence is gone, and without that, he's got NOTHING - Just a broken weirdo, unattractive both inside and out, trying like hell to be relevant!"
Howard Stern Slammed Donald Trump's Relationship With His Daughter, Ivanka
On September 25th, 2023, Howard Stern addressed Donald Trump insulting him on Truth Social.
"When I said I was 'woke' it unleashed a barrage of right-wing media debating this," Stern said to his co-host Robin Quivers and his audience.
"That's wild. Who are you? Who cares?" Quivers asked.
Stern then played a package of right-wing commentators who clearly couldn't quite define what 'woke' means. The package also included the commentators debating whether or not Stern is actually 'woke'.
The point, however, was the fact that all of the people Trump watches on a daily basis were talking about his former friend. In Stern's opinion, this is why Trump decided to go after him.
Stern admitted that never in his wildest dreams could he have imagined that a former president would be at all concerned with what he said or thought. He was also blown away that someone who "should have" better things to do would post about his comments at two in the morning on a Saturday night.
"Imagine, you got to be the 45th of the United States and you're sitting and writing about Howard Stern, whether he's woke," Stern said right before a Trump impersonator came on his show to start debating him. During the conversation, Stern pointed out that he must still be relevant if Trump is so "bothered" about what he said.
"Keep Tweeting about me, I don't mind," Stern said to the Trump impersonator.
Then, while speaking to the Trump impersonator, Stern took a shot at the controversial relationship the real-life former president has with his daughter, Ivanka Trump:
"On a personal level, I do miss you. I miss the two of us talking about how much we want to f*** [your daughter] Ivanka."
Stern, of course, was referring to all the "creepy" things Donald Trump has said about his daughter being attractive. This includes an on-air conversation with Howard Stern years ago when Trump agreed his daughter was "voluptuous" and a "piece of a**".
Stern and Trump would frequently speak about beautiful women on The Stern Show back in the day. And Ivanka Trump would come up as Stern always found her attractive. But Trump himself was also not afraid to praise his daughter's beauty. Albeit not always in ways that people were comfortable with.
At the end of the day, Stern is unbothered by Trump's shots at him as he seems to know who the former president really is.
