Former Real Housewives Of New York City personality Luann de Lesseps recently spilled some tea about a long-ago makeout session involving British actor Hugh Grant — but according to Hugh, he has no recollection of the alleged kissing.

Younger RHONY and rom-com fans might not be aware, but in 1995, Hugh Grant was involved in a cheating scandal during his relationship with then-partner Elizabeth Hurley:

"[Hugh] went through a huge scandal in 1995 when [his very brief involvement] with Divine Brown, a sex worker, became public.

"This was a very intense experience for both Hurley and Grant... and since they didn't break up right away, the rest of their relationship must have felt intense as well."

Infidelity happens more than most of us would like to think it does, and apparently it didn't tank their relationship, which began in 1987 and continued until they split in 2000.

The all-but-forgotten scandal occurred nearly 30 years ago, and today, it's hardly a blip in Hugh's long career in Hollywood.

Plus, the 1990s were a wild time for everyone, and a drunken kiss is pretty forgettable.

That 1995 controversy barely warrants mentioning, to a point where it feels crass and uncouth to revisit it today — except for the part where it speaks to Hugh's potential willingness to engage in risky and semi-public entanglements when tempted in the very distant past.

Which brings us to former RHONY star Luann de Lesseps.

Earlier this week, Luann gave an interview to TooFab, entitled: "Luann de Lesseps Recalls 'Heavily' Making Out With Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler Flirtation (Exclusive)."

According to Luann, she was the "aggressor" in the scenario, and she hastily made her way over to a restaurant in the Hamptons, Pierre's, after an unnamed friend called to inform her that Hugh was dining there:

"I said, 'I'll be right over.' I called and said, 'Get the table right next to Hugh Grant.' I had my family over, my brother was visiting me, and I said, 'Let's go.'"

At this point, it's worth mentioning that, as described, the alleged incident sounded like one Luann would be far more inclined to recall than Hugh, given her Machiavellian machinations in tracking the actor down before anything purportedly happened.

Luann openly stated that not only did she race down to Pierre's and demand a table adjacent to Hugh, she also masterminded a scheme to command his attention by literally smashing her chair into his:

"I pushed out my chair real fast, and I bumped into him – flirting 101 – I bumped into him and said, 'Oh I'm so sorry.'"

Okay, the "101" part of "flirting 101" is definitely apt there. Big "high school cafeteria vibes," Luann.

According to Luann, her bid to lure Hugh was successful, as she continued:

"I go, 'I'm so sorry. Can I buy you a shot[?] I feel terrible.' He goes, 'Okay, but I'll come have a shot with you if you do one with me.'

"Before you know it, we are taking shots and making out ... heavily at the table! My brother was like, 'I can't believe you're making out with Hugh Grant', and I was like, 'Neither can I.'"

As far as reality TV gossip goes, Luann's tale might have come and gone with little interest — until Hugh acknowledged the story and addressed its veracity.

Luann's Story Got Back To Hugh

Two days after Luann's TooFab exclusive appeared, People picked the story up and published an article about her claims on November 24.

That caught Hugh's attention, and he shared a screenshot of the article on Twitter/X:

Hugh didn't deny it per se.

He was even gentlemanly about it, flattering an unnamed RHONY cast member, and he said:

"Steady on. I do remember meeting a charming RHNY in a restaurant, but I’d like to stress it was about 15 years ago.

"I don’t recall shots or kissing but her memory might be better than mine."

Again, based solely on how much thought and planning Luann said she placed into engineering an "accidental" chair bump situation, Hugh's tweet makes sense.

While Luann ditched her plans, dragged her family to Pierre's, and created an excuse to ply Hugh with shots, he'd only remember it from the perspective of meeting (and possibly making out with) someone from RHONY.

Many commenters were more amused by how Hugh said what he said rather than what he said, and one remarked:

I love how wonderfully British your reply was[.]

Others joked about the absurdity of the story, and one quipped: "Do you remember making out with me in the Wimpy toilets in Worthing? Then you wolfed down my Brown Derby and roller skated home."

A few people speculated that it might have been a case of mistaken identity, suggesting Luann mistook a random British man for Hugh Grant, and never questioned her recall of the night.

However, several users responded with their own anecdotes of forgotten adventures when alcohol was involved, surmising that the apologetic shots were the cause of the discrepancy between their recollections of the night:

"I usually find if I don't recall [shots] and kissing from 15 years ago it's usually the shots 🤔"

"I mean, LuAnn is gorgeous, so I wouldn't be ashamed of that. The biggest takeaway here, though, is how much you had to drink to not be able to remember."

"If you don't remember shots and kissing, it probably happened bae[.]"

One commenter asserted that "15 years ago [Luann] was married ... the plot thickens."

Another informed Hugh that she was purportedly a repeat offender, writing: "I saw [Luann] making out with a guy in a French restaurant in my neighborhood. It was a quaint little neighborhood place, so the whole thing was awkward. It must have been something she liked to do."

By far, the most common reaction was appreciation for Hugh's candid post, and one person remarked: "I. Could. Not. Love. You. Or. Your. Response. More."
