Hugh Grant may not be like his rom-com characters in real life, but he acknowledges some of his bad attitudes during interviews. It's no mystery that some celebrities are persona non grata on talk shows because of their behavior on- and off-screen. Whether they have good reasons to or not, bad behavior does not look good on television.

Former talk show host Jon Stewart is one of the talk show hosts who would not take celebrities' bad behaviors and doesn’t mind banning them from his show too. That’s where Hugh Grant falls in with Jon Stewart. Hugh Grant was a terrible guest on The Jon Stewart Show in 1993 for his continuous nagging behind the scenes and even got banned. Here's what Hugh Grant has to say about his bad behavior, including the wrongs he's committed on air in the past, and how Grant has changed (or not).

Hugh Grant wasn’t being a diva in front of the camera. It was more what happened before the taping of his interview that gave Jon Stewart the ick.

Grant spent his time at the studio complaining that he had other places to be. "He’s giving everyone sh*t the whole time, and he’s a big pain in the a**," Stewart recalled.

Hugh Grant also complained to the staff about the clip that was selected for the movie — Did You Hear About the Morgans? — he was promoting. The clip was obviously supplied by the film’s publicist, but Jon Stewart further recalled Grant angrily asking "What is that clip? It’s a terrible clip."

"Well, then make a better f**king movie," Stewart retorted.

Things may have looked okay on-screen, but the behind-the-scenes drama was far more telling. It was a bad experience the TV host did not want to relive again, which came as no surprise when Stewart said he would never have Grant back on his show.

What Really Went On Between Hugh Grant And Julia Roberts?

Grant has had a fair amount to say about Roberts and the making of the movie. And some of it has been pretty rude.

The moment might have ended with everyone laughing, but it didn’t mean Hugh Grant was not being rude.

Then was the infamous side eye during the 95th Academy Awards in 2023. Hugh Grant was slammed for being rude to model and ABC’s Oscar red carpet host, Ashley Graham. Grant responded to Graham’s questions in a one-off manner. The situation was awkward and did not particularly portray the rom-com king in a great light.

Hugh Grant Is A Rumored Nightmare To Work With On Sets

That's why reputations are of the utmost importance, and Grant's is at stake.

Whether once a year or not, his tantrums have often caught the eye of the media. Hugh Grant also apologized for his bad behavior towards a woman chaperoning a child actor on the set of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in 2021.

Grant had thrown a temper tantrum at a woman who ended up not being part of the crew. It resulted in the actor being expelled from the set and feeling very apologetic about the situation.

He had to do a lot of groveling to the nice woman who was chaperoning a child (and didn't actually work on the set), but it didn’t clear Grant of his bad behavior.

The actor is very self-aware, even revealing that part of the reason he doesn’t get hired anymore in Hollywood is because of his rude attitude.

"I developed a bad attitude from about 2005 onwards, shortly after Music and Lyrics. I just had enough. Then I went back in 2009 and made another film. At that point, it wasn’t me giving up Hollywood. Hollywood gave me up because I made such a massive turkey with that film - Did You Hear About the Morgans? - with Sarah Jessica Parker. Whether I wanted to or not, after that, the days of being a very well-paid leading man were suddenly gone overnight."

It's rare to find a celebrity so self-aware, but Hugh Grant knows he has a rude attitude and that may have been long before he went on hiatus. The actor was once on Jon Stewart's banned list, but the former host hasn't mentioned lifting the ban on Hugh Grant, even though the actor acknowledged his bad behavior.
