Russell Brand Got Married And Had Kids Soon After Divorcing Katy Perry

Katy claims that Russell told her he wanted a divorce in a single text. "He's a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him," she said in 2013. "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011." Russell did file for divorce at the end of December, citing irreconcilable differences.

The comedian had made previous statements about struggling from sex addiction, making monogamous relationships difficult. But it wasn’t long after his divorce from Katy that Russell entered into another serious relationship.

By 2015, it was reported Russell was in a relationship with Laura Gallacher, a Scottish fashion designer and lifestyle blogger. The two had reportedly known each other for years, having first met in 2007 (which was before he met Katy).

Russell and Laura got engaged in 2016, the same year she gave birth to their first daughter, Mabel. The couple wed in 2017, and welcomed a second girl, Peggy, the following year.

In her documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, she admitted that not being ready for children led to the breakdown of her marriage to Russell in addition to their busy work schedules.

Given how quickly he started a family after their divorce, Russell did seem inclined to settle down. But it took Katy nearly a decade following their break-up to have a child of her own.

Katy Perry Doesn’t Have Good Feelings Toward Russell Brand

Though it was difficult, it’s unlikely Katy was jealous that her ex-husband had kids with someone else so quickly when she wasn’t interested in motherhood at that moment.

Moreover, the singer has expressed having resentment towards her ex, which suggests she may feel relief they didn’t have kids of their own. Speaking with 60 Minutes Australia in 2020, Katy says their divorce was the "first breaking of my idealistic mind."

"I was having great success at 23, 24 and 25 and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating. It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once," she continued.

However, Russell swears he harbors no ill will towards his ex-wife. In a live Q&A on TikTok in 2021, Russell answered questions about their relationships and only had good things to say.

"I really tried in that relationship. I have nothing but positive feelings for her,” he quipped.

Katy Perry Has Started Her Own Family With Orlando Bloom

Another reason Katy is likely happy she never started a family with Russell is because she went on to find love with Orlando Bloom. They were first linked in 2016, and though they were on-and-off for several years, they got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019.

Katy subsequently announced her pregnancy in March 2020, only to deliver their daughter, Daisy Dove, later in the year.

Orlando and Katy haven’t walked down the aisle yet, but reports say they still intend to do so. They just haven’t felt rushed due to new parenthood as well as the COVID pandemic.

In March 2020, it was reported the couple were planning an elaborate wedding celebration in Japan but canceled due to coronavirus. "Katy was actually really excited about walking down the aisle pregnant," a source said. However, it appears they haven’t rescheduled their wedding plans, rather focusing on their busy careers and young daughter.

Katy has spoken multiple times about how happy she is in their relationship. During her 60 Minutes interview, the singer said her and Orlando’s relationship is much healthier compared to past romances she’s had.

"It's like, we should probably walk into the other room to discuss something where we disagree because we'll just do it in public," Katy said "But I think if we can get to the ends of our lives together, we'll be each other's greatest teachers."

She also described it as "a healthy frictional, very open, very communicative, nothing is swept under the mat type of relationship."

From the sounds of it, Katy is happy in her current relationship, while Russell feels the same about his.
