Netflix is constantly delivering quality entertainment, and fans keep their subscriptions going because they know that the streaming giant will continue to deliver the goods. Others are catching up, but Netflix is leading the pack for a reason.
2 years back, Netflix debuted Sarah Paulson's Ratched. The actress was excited for people to see the show, despite how hard the role was to play. It quickly became a hit on the small screen, and fans have been patiently waiting for a season two ever since.
It's been two years now, and fans are starting to wonder if the second season is delayed. Let's take a closer look and see.
Is Season 2 Of 'Ratched' Delayed?
In September 2020, Ratched made its debut on Netflix with a world of hype behind it. The character herself was quite legendary, and having Sarah Paulson in the lead role only helped the hype grow.
Fans devoured the first season of the show, and they were happy to get a deeper look at Nurse Ratched.
When talking about her character and how she changes during season 1, Paulson told EW, "Everything is an opportunity for her to learn so that she has an opportunity to right an age-old wrong that she carries, which is basically governing her internal story. It's behind every choice she makes. By the time you get to episode 6 of our show, you learn about her childhood and what she has had to endure and how harrowing it was, not to mention the time she spent in the war. A needle, an ice pick, and an implement put into the frontal lobe would not be something to make her pass out."
Paulson and the rest of the cast were brilliant during the show's inaugural season, and fans were quickly calling for a second season to hit Netflix.
It Had A 2 Season Order
Now, this is where things truly get interesting with Ratched. By all accounts, season one was a success, and a second season probably should have happened at this point. This is primarily because the series was given a 2-season order before it even hit the small screen, meaning that the show was destined to have multiple seasons.
Per Esquire, "Good news: Season Two of Ratched is a definite. When Netflix greenlit the project, it ordered two seasons up front, with nine episodes apiece. Here’s the rub: Ratched Season Two is a definite, but with the coronavirus pandemic continuing to throw roadblocks into life on film and television sets, it could be awhile before the cast and crew can get back to work. The jury is still out on when Ratched can resume production, according to the leading lady herself."
Despite kicking things off with at least two seasons in mind, there has been quite the delay thus far. It's not uncommon for there to be a bit of a break, as Euphoria fans just learned that they will have to wait a couple of years for season 3. However, most shows want to get something out as quickly as possible to avoid fans losing interest.
Due to the large gap between Ratched's seasons, fans are beginning to wonder if this show has been completely delayed.
Is Season 2 Delayed?
As of now, it sure seems like season 2 has been delayed. As Esquire pointed out, many things have been pushed back in the world of entertainment, and it appears as though Ratched is a victim of circumstance.
Despite this, Sarah Paulson has dished on season two of the show, mainly that the show won't hop directly into the famed hospital where fans first met Nurse Ratched decades ago.
"But I don’t know that we would ever go into the hospital, simply because—and this is me saying this, I don’t know what Ryan’s plan would be—I certainly don’t want to see me acting opposite a computer-generated Jack Nicholson. I don’t think that sounds like a good idea. So I think if we end up in that era, it would be more about what Nurse Ratched’s life was when she turned the key in her white uniform, coming back into her house from those days at the hospital with all those events that happened there," she said.
It's a shame that there has been such a large gap between seasons, but fans simply need to remain patient. It would be quite a surprise if Netflix decided to axe this show before delivering a second season.
Season 2 of Ratched is a ways away, and fans are hoping that it will be worth the wait.
