Euphoria - the series that won Zendaya her historic Emmy Award is controversial, to say the least. With its graphic depiction of drug use and honest portrait of addiction and teenage drama, the series focuses on teenagers who are navigating through the difficulties of life today.
The series is also famous for a gratuitous sequence featuring full-frontal male nudity (also referred to as the 30 penises scene), which many fans and critics believed didn't serve any purpose. The show doesn't shy away from getting real - but Jacob Elordi (who plays the terrifying high school bully Nate Jacobs) is opening up on how they film the NSFW scenes.
Euphoria Uses Prosthetics For Filming, Reveals Jacob Elordi
Elordi appeared on The Tonight Show and during his conversation with guest host Julie Bowen, explained how Euphoria filmed the talked-about scenes. The actor revealed that cast members don't actually go nude for the scenes, and use prosthetics instead.
"Yes. Yeah, yeah so Eric's penis...it's not his real penis. It's a stunt penis," the actor confirmed, referring to actor Eric Dane's highly controversial scene in the series. Danes plays the actor's on-screen father in the film, Cal Jacobs, a married man with a dangerous secret.
Jacob shared that their makeup trailers were full of prosthetics set up, ready for whenever a scene demanded its use. "When you come into the makeup trailer, they're all kind of set up..." he said.
The Australian actor further shared that makeup artists "have to do makeup" on the prosthetics, to make them look real.
Elordi, who became famous overnight for his role in Netflix's The Kissing Booth, was recently seen in the franchise's third film. While the actor appears to have grown apart from the high schooler role, he revealed making a request to Netflix to remain fully clothed in the film, unless a scene required him to be shirtless.
"I specifically requested," the heartthrob expressed, adding that he agreed to go shirtless only if he was "in a swimming pool or a shower".
"It was getting ridiculous," Elordi added.
The actor played Noah Flynn in the three-part movie franchise, alongside actors Joey King, Joel Courtney, and Taylor Zakhar Perez.
