During his time in the 2015 film 'Focus', Will Smith was in a different kind of role. He wasn't his goofy self in a comedy and instead, it was very different. Smith was supposed to appear as more of a sexual character in a serious role. As he revealed alongside Collider, he embraced the part.
"This is one of the first times, in my career, where it was full-on, steamy, grown man-ness, and emotion. It’s funny because it’s actually an uncomfortable space for me. I’m having to settle into that. My natural instinct is that, when you set a moment, in that way, and it’s really serious, that’s the perfect time for the joke. So, to be constantly pulled away from that, and to just live in the seriousness and the sexiness of a moment, was a little uncomfortable for me."

When Jada found out about the casting choice, she urged Smith to get in shape. Will revealed this bit of information while promoting the film. According to Will, Jada didn't want him to embarrass her.
"When Margot got hired for the gig... [Jada] saw that Margot was young and hot and in shape. She said, 'Boy don't embarrass me. Get in shape now’. She was like, 'Do not let that girl smash you onscreen.”
Smith ended up looking just fine in the role, while Margot Robbie also had a great time in the film. It enjoyed decent success, however, it really didn't start that way.

I’m soaking wet because I’d been swimming, I get back to the hostel at 6 a.m., no sleep, turn my phone on, and I’ve got all these messages: ‘They want you to audition for Focus. Your flight leaves tonight.’ There’s only one catamaran to the mainland and it leaves in 20 minutes, so I’m grabbing my stuff and I race off and I get the catamaran, I get a bus to the airport, I get to the airport and wait six hours, I fly to France and wait another six hours, I fly to New York, and by the time I get to New York they’ve lost my luggage."
"My shoes are wet, my denim shorts are damp, I’ve got no makeup, no clothes, and I’d calculated that in the last 50-something hours I had six hours sleep in total"
As if things could not get any worse, once Robbie arrived, Will was running late "because he was coming from Queens."

Much to her surprise, despite the fact that she dissed Will and didn't feel her best, she still got the role.
