At the moment, it seems as though James Franco is still canceled. He was recently spotted alongside his girlfriend, vacationing over in Europe - as for a return to the big-screen, that doesn't seem likely for now. Twitter trolled the star for not being asked to return for 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. It seems like the allegations aren't going away and it'll haunt his career for the foreseeable future.
It should be noted that not everyone is in agreement with the 'cancel culture' movement, particularly when it involves the canceling of James Franco.
A certain iconic actress that worked with Franco in the past issued a statement, defending Franco and blasting the movement altogether. Let's find out who's behind those words and the reasoning for them.
Sharon Stone Doesn't Believe In The 'Cancel Culture' Movement
It should be noted that Sharon Stone doesn't believe in the 'cancel culture' movement to begin with. The iconic actress made mention in the past that it should be used as a learning tool for men and as a way to better themselves. She doesn't believe that canceling them altogether will do any good.
In addition, alongside ET Online, she discussed her own experiences with men and according to the actress, it is just a simple case of them not knowing what they're doing.
"You go out with them, they bring you home for a goodnight kiss and they grab your hand and put it on their p*****. A 50-year-old man," she said.
"I don’t think they’re trying to sexually harass me, I think they’re just incredibly stupid and awkward. Like, really? That’s your move? Please don’t ever call me again, because you’re too stupid to date. I don’t think I should ruin your whole life over that, but I just think you’re incredibly stupid.”
Not only that, but Stone would come to the defense of one of her former co-workers, calling her experience alongside the actor completely different.
Stone Defended The Allegations Against James Franco
At this point, it is hard to attach Franco to any kind of project, given his reputation. However, Sharon Stone doesn't see it that way. She appeared in the film 'Disaster Artist' alongside Franco and according to the iconic actress, her experience was very different.
“I’m appalled by this thing about him that is happening. Now all of a sudden he’s a bad guy? I worked with him, I know him," said Stone, who worked alongside Franco on The Disaster Artist. "He's the loveliest, kindest, sweetest, elegant, nicest man. He’s a kind friend, lovely professional. I’m absolutely appalled by this."
Once again, Stone made it clear that this should be a point of teaching for those that are found guilty and not as a moment to cancel them completely.
"I don’t feel like these trials without due process are entirely appropriate," she added. "I feel that it’s appropriate that people have to take responsibility for the actions, but I do feel that some due process is in order. There’s a range of activities. And you can’t charge somebody with a felony over a misdemeanor. There has to be a balance here where this has to be heard in a rational format. So, this isn’t just black and white. And it can’t be that every man who doesn’t know what the f*** he’s doing in life is a criminal. Because a lot of men are just stupid."
Despite the actress trying to prove her point, Franco's status appears to be unchanged.
Franco's Status Remains Unchanged
At the moment, work-wise, things remained unchanged for Franco, who was recently overseas enjoying a quiet trip over in Greece alongside his partner.
Friends like Seth Rogen also admitted that at the moment, there are absolutely no plans for the two to reunite and that doesn't appear like it is going to change at any point.
Franco would address the rumors briefly a few years back alongside Stephen Colbert, and according to the actor, he praised the bravery of those that came out, however, he would also reveal that everything that was being said wasn't entirely true.
"The things that I heard were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice, because they didn't have a voice for so long," he continued. "So I don't want to shut them down in any way. I think it's a good thing and I support it."
Who really knows if he'll ever make a comeback.
