In the earlier years of Streisand's career, she turned down three roles which went to Jane Fonda. The roles were for the movies: They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, Julia and Klute. Fonda has also sold millions of exercise tapes in the 1980s, and has been an activist throughout her career, supporting the Civil Rights movement. In a 2016 interview with the New York Times, Streisand claimed that she "made Fonda's career". In what the New York Times called "a deadpan aside", Streisand said, "I made Jane Fonda's career."

Saying "no" to a film simply means an actor gives the next actor offered the role a minimum amount of help by turning down a job. Yes, some actors are given a chance they might not have been given otherwise, but it's also up to the actor in the role to inhabit the character and put in the work.

Jane Fonda Was Taken Aback By Barbra Streisand's Statements

Celebrities can be surprised by what their fellow celebrities have said about them. When Barbra Streisand said she "made Jane Fonda's career" in an interview, it's understandable why Fonda was taken aback when she heard about the comment.

Jane Fonda is the daughter of actor Henry Fonda. This might have helped her introduction into Hollywood. But considering Jane Fonda's talent and charisma, she probably did not need much help from her father as she rose to fame. Starting with comedy, she soon moved on to more dramatic roles.

According to Today, after hearing Streisand's comments while appearing on Watch What Happens Live, the actress responded to Streisand's statements. It seems Fonda believes Streisand "needs to say those things" to give herself confidence.

When Andy Cohen asked Fonda, "What did you think of Barbra Streisand saying in 2016 that she made your career because she turned down Klute, Julia and They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" Fonda gave an interesting reply to his question, possibly joking during her response.

Fonda replied, "She needs to say things like that to kind of, you know, give her a little boost. You have to feel sorry for her. It's been a tough life. She needs something to boost her up."

The Monster-In-Law actress was apparently just teasing the singer, and she gave a little smile as she finished talking. The two legends have supposedly been friends for a while.

After Fonda gave her response to Streisand's remark on Watch What Happens Live, Streisand still hasn't responded to the 80 For Brady actress. It seems things may have ended with Fonda's teasing words.

Apparently the two legends have been friends for some time. The two reportedly had dinner together in 2009. Fonda even discussed the meal they shared at Streisand's house in her blog. She talked about how the two of them sat on the bathroom floor, previewing to Streisand's latest album.

According to janefonda.com, Fonda wrote, "The end of the evening found us all sitting on the floor Barbra's bathroom listening to a few cuts from her soon-to-be-released album (Diana Krall produced) and some songs from albums she and Richard did years ago that James had never heard."

The actress/activist also commented on Barbra Streisand's home in her blog. She complimented the singer's design skills, even comparing them to Streisand's performances. Fonda stated, "it has her unique stamp of perfection, coziness, enormous architectural detail and originality–all her doing. She designs and decorates just about as brilliantly as she performs."
