There are plenty of celebrity couples that seem to be perfect together. Jared Leto And Cameron Diaz Were Rumored To Have Been Engaged At Some Point In The Early 2000s
Cameron Diaz and Jared Leto dated from 1999 to 2003. Shortly before dating the Suicide Squat star, Diaz had been linked to the Fight Club star Edward Norton, whom she had met at a Super Bowl party a couple of years before. However, this relationship came to an end shortly after Leto slipped Diaz his number.
Despite both of them being used to under the spotlight, Diaz and Leto managed to keep their relationship a secret for a long time. In fact, in 2002, the Telegraph called them one of “Hollywood's most photogenic, but least photographed couples” because the pair seemed to constantly avoid being seen together in public.
And while Leto's dating history sure has needed a full explanation, he and Diaz managed to keep their relationship under the radar, so much so that some media outlets even complained about it.
Back in 2002, The Telegraph even wrote that Leto and Diaz were [sic]." In fact, when asked about his romance with Diaz, he told the publication, "That's something I would rather not talk about."
Although both Diaz and Leto tried their best not to talk about their relationship in front of the press, the pair made the tabloids in 2003 when rumors began that the couple had gotten engaged. All because the actress had been spotted wearing a $15,000 ring during that year’s Golden Globes Awards.
However, the rumors were quickly shot down and the pair ended up breaking up at some point later that year.
Although neither of them has openly spoken about it, the media quickly suggested that Diaz and Leto broke up because of some of the things the actor did to prepare for his role in the movie Requiem for a Dream. According to Cinema.com, Leto rented a monastery in Portugal all for himself to prepare for the film without telling his current girlfriend about it.
Jared Leto Has Admitted He’s Not Great With Relationships
Another reason that could have led to Cameron Diaz and Jared Leto’s ultimate breakup could have been the actor’s bad luck with relationships. On more than one occasion, the Morbius star had admitted that he’s often "too obsessed with [his] own creative ambitions and goals" to focus on other parts of his personal life, such as relationships.
Additionally, the actor has also admitted that he doesn’t believe that marriage is for him. "I don't really believe in settling down," Leto revealed in an interview. "That term implies that the current path I'm on isn't valid. It's not always about living your life the way people have lived before you."
Since his breakup with Cameron Diaz, the actor hasn’t shied away from new relationships. Most recently, Leto has been in a steady relationship with Valery Kaufman. In 2020, a source close to the actor revealed that he and the Russian model "have been off and on now for a few years, but seem to spend more time together lately."
