Jason Alexander's Wife And Other Seinfeld Cast Members Loved Ones Were In The Series Finale

The Seinfeld series finale originally aired on May 14, 1998. Simply titled "The Finale," the episode featured Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine on trial after they didn't come to the aid of a carjacking victim. The episode was iconic not only because it was the last in the series but because it also featured many of the series' past characters, such as Kramer's attorney, Jackie Chiles.

Jason Alexander then explained that everyone's family had been featured at some point during Seinfeld's nine seasons on the air, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus' sister. However, Jason Alexander said his wife, being an actor, was never on the show, so he said let's put her in the last episode.

But what did the series co-creator and star think about the finale of his hit TV show? According to Jerry Seinfeld, he's not too pleased with how things turned out either.

According to an article by Esquire, Jerry Seinfeld once lamented how the final episode ended during a New Yorker Festival interview with David Reminck. The legendary comedian said, "I sometimes think we shouldn't have even done it. There was a lot of pressure on us at that time to do one big last show, but big is always bad in comedy."

But what did the show's other stars think of one of TV's most-watched series finales ever? In an interview with Emmy TV, Jason Alexander admitted that it was a "good but not great episode." Alexander also admitted that his publicist pressured him to leak details of the last episode to the press, but he refused to do it.

Julia Louis Dreyfus, who played Elaine Benes, once joked on the finale of David Letterman's late-night program, "Thanks for letting me take part in another hugely disappointing series finale."

As for Michael Richards, who played Cosmo Kramer, the comedian is notoriously private, so his views on the subject have not been shared.

However, according to Rolling Stone Magazine, the series co-creator and archetype for the George Costanza character Larry David said that he wrote the ending of Seinfeld that way because he didn't want it to be emotional or mushy like how the sitcom Cheers ended.

The veteran comedian added, "Let me toot my own horn for a second: I thought it was clever to bring back all those characters in a courtroom and testify against [the four] for what they did and then show those clips."

Will There Be A Seinfeld Reunion?

Seinfeld is so beloved that fans of the series have often expressed a desire to see the cast return, even if it's for one more final episode. Well, they might get their wish.

As Jerry Seinfeld was wrapping up his stand-up routine in Boston in October 2023, the comedian delighted everyone by referencing the Seinfeld series.

"Well, I have a little secret for you about the ending [of the show]. But I can't really tell it, because it is a secret. Here's what I'll tell you. OK? But you can't tell anybody. Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending."
