Less than a week after interviewing reality TV star and former President Donald Trump, podcaster Joe Rogan conducted another three-hour interview — with Trump's running mate, Senator JD Vance (R-OH).
As we observed in our recent coverage of Trump's Joe Rogan Experience interview, podcasts quickly became a highly influential factor in the weeks leading up to the 2024 election.
Before Rogan's Trump interview, Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris sat down to appear on Alex Cooper's well-regarded Call Her Daddy podcast.
Alex, who is often described as the second-most influential podcaster – second only to Joe – extended an invitation to Trump, who declined to appear on her show.
Joe tweeted on Tuesday about doing a similar interview with Kamala Harris, adding that he wanted the Vice President to travel to him and commit to longer than one hour ... a pretty big ask, considering that day marked one week until Election Day.
However, Vance made it down to Austin for the whole three, and fans were surprised when Joe challenged him on one of the election's most heated and contentious issues.

Joe's interview with Vance actually clocked in past the three-hour mark, running for another 17 minutes.
A number of exchanges stood out on social media, in particular one where Vance asserted that he'd gone into "fight or flight" mode at a mini-golf venue after learning that his future running mate had been fired upon at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
Vance had not yet been announced as Trump's running mate at the time of the incident.
Vance voiced his opinions on a range of issues, but in one notable exchange, Rogan amicably challenged him on what has become a massive inflection point in 2024: Abortion.
As noted above, Joe is based in Austin, Texas, and people in his state have suffered significantly due to partisan changes to abortion laws, both prior to and following the Supreme Court's 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson decision, which functionally "overturned" Roe v. Wade.
Vance's Rogan interview occurred against the backdrop of a ProPublica article about a young Texan woman, Josseli Barnica, who died of sepsis during a miscarriage in 2021 — doctors found themselves legally prohibited from saving her life even before Dobbs tied their hands more tightly.
Rogan was a bit more confrontational than he typically is when he raised the matter of reproductive medicine to Vance, perhaps due to the fact that women are dying in his state, Texas, right now:
"That – that's concerning to me, that we can make – if there’s a place in the country where it’s legal to have a medical procedure, and you live in a state where it’s not legal that your state can decide what you can and can’t do with your body, which is essentially based on a religious idea ..."
Joe subsequently said that he didn't believe the government should monitor Americans' travel, using the example of crossing state lines to access reproductive care as an example.
Vance sidestepped Joe's question, focusing on the "travel surveillance" aspect, and answered coyly:
"I don’t like the idea, to be clear. I’ve not heard of this, maybe as, like, a possibility, but not as something that actually exists in the law, but I’ve not heard of somebody being arrested, and I don’t like the idea of arresting people for moving about the country."
