Teen Mom OG Jenelle Evans is yet again the subject of social media rumors — this time about whether she's been "fired" from Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.
Jenelle has an extremely tense relationship with Teen Mom fans on social media, and we recently reported on a separate cluster of rumors about Child Protective Services (CPS) investigating her in Las Vegas; that claim is unsubstantiated.
Jenelle's reality TV career goes way back — she was first introduced to audiences on MTV's 16 & Pregnant in 2010.
She was involved with the Teen Mom franchise up until 2019, when she and MTV parted ways.
In May, news broke that Jenelle would return in Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, and on September 12, the official Teen Mom Instagram account shared a reel featuring Jenelle and her son Jace, now 15.
Earlier this week, rumors that Jenelle was fired from Teen Mom: The Next Chapter began circulating after a popular reality television blog, Ashley's Reality Roundup, published "EXCLUSIVE! Jenelle Evans Cut From ‘Teen Mom: Next Chapter’: Here’s How It Went Down."
Citing a "production source," the site claimed:
"The Ashley can exclusively reveal that Jenelle has been cut from the cast of Tieen Mom: The Next Chapter, after appearing consistently for only one season.
"Production sources tell The Ashley that Jenelle learned about a month ago that producers were no longer interested in continuing to follow her story, which came as a surprise to Jenelle."
The same source asserted that Jenelle makes between $23,000 and $25,000 per episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, and opined that being cut from the cast would significantly harm her finances.
In an update to the post, Ashley's Reality Roundup added:
"The Ashley would like to point out here, though, that there is a (slight) possibility that Jenelle could appear in the upcoming episodes, but it would be footage that was previously filmed and unused last season. If that happens, Jenelle would be paid for the episode(s) she appears in. The Ashley stands by her story above.
"MTV has not commented."
Janelle also shared but quickly deleted a video in which she cried in a recliner, and Reddit users had a field day with the post.
Jenelle's Boyfriend August Commented On The Rumors
On Tuesday, US Magazine published an article entitled "Jenelle Evans ‘Not Being Fired’ From ‘Teen Mom’ Franchise: ‘There Is No Bad Breakup.'"
US recapped rumors of Jenelle's firing, and said her "rep set the record straight in an exclusive statement" to the magazine.
The statement that followed was attributed to August Keen, and it was far from definitive:
"Our lawyer is in communication with the network’s legal [department]. As of right now, nobody has any answers.
"Regardless of what anyone says, there is no bad breakup, no bad blood between Jenelle and MTV and everything is fine. We absolutely are and will continue our relationship with MTV and Teen Mom. Jenelle definitely is not being fired [from Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.]"
Confusingly, August said that Janelle was "definitely" not being fired — but at the same time, he added that "nobody has any answers," which suggested something specific was in question.
August also said that "the only question at the moment is how many episodes [of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter Jenelle] will be included in," but he didn't seem to be referencing the missing "answers."
MTV hasn't acknowledged the rumors.
