Former The Bachelorette lead and Dancing With The Stars Season 33 contestant Jenn Tran dished about her rumored romance with DWTS pro Sasha Farber on Thursday (November 14), and she said some surprising (and potentially worrisome) things.
If you follow either show, you probably know all about Jenn's reality TV trajectory this year.
After a truly disastrous and nightmarish finale to her season of The Bachelorette, Jenn was immediately confirmed as a DWTS Season 33 contestant.
Jenn was partnered with pro Sasha Farber, and rumors linking the pair romantically circulated as early as the beginning of October.
Jenn and Sasha were voted off at the end of October — and the following day, she published a TikTok video strongly implying they were a couple.
That impression solidified this week, due to a succession of Instagram comment debates involving Jenn's Bachelorette ex, Devin Strader.
Devin became irate when Instagram users taunted him about Jenn's "new boyfriend," Sasha; Ezra Sosa waded in first to defend Jenn and Sasha, before Sasha himself got involved.
On Thursday, Jenn stopped by the podcast Sorry We're Cyrus, to speak with Brandi and Tish Cyrus:
Oxford Languages defines the neologism "showmance" as "a romantic relationship between two members of the cast of a television series, film, or play, especially one contrived for the sake of publicity."
And Jenn's remarks on Sorry We're Cyrus led us to wonder if we've all been tricked by another phony showmance ... or if something Jenn's widely beloved brother James Tran repeatedly cautioned us about is at play.
Sasha Would 'Freak Out,' Jenn Says
Before we look at what Jenn said about Sasha being her boyfriend on Sorry We're Cyrus, let's first go back to what James Tran said during the disastrous Bachelorette finale.
Repeatedly.
In our recap, we specifically observed that James sounded a bit overprotective — until his concerns were immediately validated:
"In the first hour of the finale, Jenn's brother James seemed almost like a cop, grilling her suitors and repeatedly saying Jenn had a history of falling for 'emotionally unavailable men.'
"In those scenes, it seemed like James was being overbearing and judgmental. (We're sorry we thought that, James.)"
To be clear, Devin was unquestionably "the bad guy," and what occurred between them is in no way Jenn's fault for choosing an "emotionally unavailable" man.
Bachelorette fans were of the opinion that Devin "love bombed" Jenn — he clearly pursued her as if he planned to marry her, and emotional availability is pretty far down on the list of concerns about Devin.
But then there's Sasha, who, at 40, is 14 years Jenn's senior, and an exchange between Tish and Jenn about their relationship status.
Tish raised the subject of a Dancing With The Stars tour and used the "boyfriend" label, prompting Jenn to respond:
[Tish]: "How fun to go on tour with your boyfriend?"
[Jenn Tran]: "Oh, God, if you say boyfriend, [Sasha] going to freak out."
Jenn spoke a little about her post-breakup period after the Devin fiasco, and alluded to not being "tied down" to anything.
However, she also talked about moving in with Sasha, and the way she phrased it was worrisome, considering her recent romantic history:
"Right now, I gotta figure out a place to live, and that’s probably Sasha’s couch right now. It’s amazing. He’s going to make me cook and clean every day.
"I don’t know how I feel about that, but I don’t have to pay rent. And then I get free dogs, too, free dog therapy. It’s perfect."
Of course, Jenn's comment about Sasha potentially "freak[ing] out" came from her, not him — but her apparent belief that Sasha would resist the "boyfriend" label certainly leaves us concerned that she's barreling toward another high-profile heartbreak.
