Although she still takes her workouts incredibly seriously, The Morning Show star has acknowledged that she has often "pushed herself too far" and was shown all the areas where she'd injured herself by a physical therapist.
"My physical therapist gave me a Barbie doll that's covered in Kinesio tape," she explained. This gift showed the star "every injury I've had in the last 15 years."
“When you’re in a mindset of, ‘I need to do 45 minutes of cardio or I won’t get a good workout,’ it’s daunting. I believed it for so long," she explained. “I just burnt out and broke my body.”
How Jennifer Aniston's Workout Routine Changed After She 'Broke Her Body'
In an interview with Instyle, Jennifer Aniston admitted she was forcing herself into a high-pressure mindset and taunting herself to encourage a better workout. The Bruce Almighty star admitted she "won't get a good workout" if she didn't push herself to the max.
Jennifer shared that it "doesn't feel like herself" when she doesn't work out.
"When you're in a mindset of, 'I need to do 45 minutes of cardio or I won't get a good workout,' it's daunting. I believed it for so long. I just burnt out and broke my body."
Although Jennifer Aniston's workout routine aims to push the actress, she knows when she has gone too far. "Crossfit is too aggressive," she shared. "It's about quantity, not quality, and it's too hard on the body."
The star also felt she had a similar experience with boxing; "I had a great time, but it was really hard on my wrists."
Instead, Jennifer Aniston's workout involves a low-impact program that helps her achieve her workout goals without being too tough on her body.
“It used to be pounding, pounding, pounding. You had to get 45 minutes to an hour of cardio; otherwise, you weren’t getting a workout,” she says about the monotony of her grueling workouts. “Not only do you stress your body, you burn out – who wants to do that at all?”
Jennifer Aniston Believes She's In Better Shape Now Than In Her 20s
Jennifer Aniston believes she is in better shape now, in her 50s, than she was in her 20s. "I feel better in mind, body, and spirit. It’s all 100% better,” added Aniston.
Aniston hates it when people say she looks good for her age. “It drives me bananas; I can’t stand it,” the Murder Mystery actress explained. “That’s a habit of society that we have these markers like, ‘Well, you’re at that stage, so for your age… I don’t even understand what it means.”
What's her advice for maintaining her physique? “It's just calories in, calories out, nutrition, what are you feeding your body? Don't eat c***. You've got to get the right amount of sleep. You've got to drink tons and tons and tons of water. You also have to give yourself the 20% of fun and gluttony and have a good time and indulge," she explained.
She added, "For me, I couldn't do that saintly, never go off the rails or deviate from the plan of perfect wellness because I like to enjoy myself."
Despite her youthful looks, Jennifer Aniston is not a fan of plastic surgery. In 2017, she admitted to Botox because she wanted to "feel like me" again but was unhappy with the results. "I was like, 'I'm not even going to try anymore,' because it just wasn't working," she admitted. "It was making me look older than I actually am!"
"It just doesn’t help. It’s a slippery, slippery slope. And like we were saying before, they [people who use Botox] just start to lose perspective, it’s their new normal, so it’s a hard one to come back from," she told makeup artist Bobbi Brown.
How Jennifer Aniston Prioritizes Her Mental Health
As well as her commitment to physical exercise, Jennifer Aniston's mental health is a priority for the actress. “In addition to all of that, I try to be really mindful about what I let into my headspace."
“Our world is really going through some challenges, and I know we all care a lot, but sometimes I think it's imperative that we turn off the noise.”
Jennifer Aniston has been open about her struggles with anxiety. She used quarantine to address her mental health. “There was so much good and so much horror all happening at once. For me, the good was a big decompression and an inventory of ‘What’s it all about?'” the actress told Instyle.
“Being idle is not preferable. It was important for those who were willing to let it be a reset to slowdown, take all of this in, reassess, reevaluate, and excavate. Literally cleaning out c*** that we don’t need.”
Ultimately, Jennifer Aniston's tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle is: "A great night of sleep makes me feel the best," she explained. "Sleep is everything; sleep is extremely important for my overall health along with exercises, drinking water, proper diet and meditation."
The actress also admits she cut out toxic presence from her life, including friends and partners. Aniston also credits a therapist for helping her through the difficult film industry. “My level of anxiety has gone down by eliminating the unnecessary sort of fat in life that I had thought was necessary,” she explained. “Also realizing that you can’t please everybody.”
