Jennifer Lawrence has made quite the rise in Hollywood. She started off making $3,000 a week for certain roles (which still isn't too shabby), but soon enough, her wage would rocket up. For Netflix's 'Don't Look Up', the actress took home a massive salary worth $25 million. These days, the star is demanding a premium for her work.
Fans of her work might've noticed, she took a little break prior to partnering alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. We'll discuss why she took the break, as she told all during her interview alongside Vanity Fair. In addition, we'll reveal how Lawrence almost lost her life, following the filming of 'Mother!', taking part in a dangerous situation.
Jennifer Lawrence Took A Break On Hollywood Shortly After The Incident
According to her revealing interview alongside Vanity Fair, the actress Jennifer Lawrence revealed that it was time to step aside, as her recent films at that point Passengers, Mother!, Red Sparrow, and the 12th X-Men film, Dark Phoenix were all largely considered box office disappointments.
“I was not pumping out the quality that I should have. I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, ‘Why didn’t she run?’… I think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life."
Justine Polsky, a best friend of Lawrence's for over a decade stated that it was time for Lawrence to step aside for a bit and recharge.
"The protocol of stardom began to kill her creative spirit, to f--- with her compass. So, she vanished, which was probably the most responsible way to protect her gifts. And sanity.”
Lawrence did exactly that and as it turns out, just prior to the break, she faced a scare that almost ended her life.
After Shooting 'Mother!' With Darren Aronofsky, Jennifer Lawrence's Private Flight From Kentucky To New York Had Multiple-Engine Failures
It was during the summer of 2017 that this scary incident would take place. Lawrence took a private flight from her home in Kentucky, to New York City.
While on the plane, the noises started to intensify and to make matters worse, a doctor who was called to the cockpit onboard was asked for advice, it was at that point that Ken knew things were serious.
One engine had gone and suddenly, the second one was out too. At this point, Lawrence started leaving voice notes and messages to friends and family.
I started leaving little mental voicemails to my family, you know, ‘I’ve had a great life, I’m sorry."
Lawrence was also thinking about worst case scenarios in the moment, "I thought, Oh, my God, maybe we’ll survive this? I’ll be a burn victim, this will be painful, but maybe we’ll live.” She pauses to crack a joke. “ ‘Please, Lord Jesus, let me keep my hair. Wrap me in your hair-loving arms. Please don’t let me go bald."
The flight landed hard on a runway in Buffalo. Rescue workers were on scene and ultimately, everyone who took the flight was safe. It was a crazy moment for the actress and one she'll never forget.
Jennifer Lawrence Had A Blast During Her Return To The Big-Screen In 'Don't Look Up'
Following her time in 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix', released in 2019, Jennifer Lawrence would opt to take a break away from the Hollywood spotlight. She wouldn't return to a role until late 2021, when she finally appeared as the lead in 'Don't Look Up', which featured a stacked cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill and so many others.
Lawrence was paid a premium for the role, pocketing an outstanding $25 million. Though she did have some struggles on-set, like losing her tooth.
“I lost a tooth pretty early in the filming,” Lawrence said, adding that one of her veneers fell off. “And I couldn’t go to the dentist until the end of the movie, so I had to film most of the movie toothless.”
Lawrence seems to be back in the groove of things, as she's currently in the post-production process in 'Red, White and Water'. In addition, 'Bad Blood' is another future project for the actress currently in the pre-production phase, as she is set to play Elizabeth Holmes.
In addition, the actress is also expecting her fist child. Busy times for Lawrence indeed.
