A specific comedian's name was "censored" when brought up during an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. As it happens, that comedian does not have a pleasant history with the series' host Jerry Seinfeld.

Why bleep that guy's name? Didn't it just bring more attention to that comedian? Let's try and figure out exactly what drove Jerry Seinfeld to do it by examining the feud that brought them to this situation.

First off, we can't keep referring to him as "that comedian." Reddit users figured out that it is actually a friend of John Belushi who feuded with Jerry Seinfeld, and he's called Bobcat Goldthwait.

Bob Goldthwait Is Good Friends With John Belushi And Bridget Everett

But not Jerry Seinfeld, obviously.

This feud is actually ancient, but it was brought back to life on Seinfeld's Netflix show as we mentioned earlier, in an episode when Bridget Evertt was a guest. She and Seinfeld were talking about John Belushi's death and legacy; he was after all one of the biggest Television stars of his time, and he died too soon, at the age of 33.

As the conversation flowed, Evertt brought up a comedian who she is friends with, but who was also Belushi's best friend, and Jerry commented "I had kind of forgotten about him. And then there was a little article about him in the paper, and even in that, there was a veiled reference to his dislike of what I did." "He used to rail against me," he proceeded to say, "cause they weren't as wild and dangerous as he was. 'Cause he sucked.'"

Jerry went on roasting him. "Okay? He wasn't funny," he adds, while Bridget is visibly regretting bringing her friend up.

Goldthwait was brought up once again in that episode when Everett and Seinfeld visited a psychic that mentioned a "longtime feud," and Seinfeld said that name out loud, but it was censored again.

The Jerry Seinfeld And Bobcat Goldthwait Feud Has A Long History

It all allegedly started in 1995, when Bobcat Goldthwait gave an unscripted interview to a local paper in Washington state, The Spokesman Review. The comedian took dissed Jerry Seinfeld back then as he was dating the then teenager Shosanna Lonstein. He told the paper "here is this creepy Scientologist guy (dating) teenage girls — which I don’t care about one way or another. What I find creepy is that people are convinced he lives in that apartment, and those are his wacky friends. They don’t like each other; they’re actors paid to pretend they like Jerry Seinfeld. He’s a weird guy. But everybody thinks he’s normal and I’m weird.”

It's worth noting that Jerry Seinfeld was 41 at the time, but one can't help but wonder which part of that diss angered Jerry the most.

Reddit Users Figured Out Who The Bleeped Out Comedian Was In Jerry Seinfeld's Show

It was quickly made apparent to Reddit users that Jerry Seinfeld and Bobcat Goldthwait were feuding, and that it was his name which was "bleeped" out.

Fans of the Netflix show created a Reddit thread to try and guess the identity of the censored comedian's name. It was a rather easy guess, as one user wrote: "As others guessed, Bobcat Goldthwait. Despite the bleep you can see it's a two-syllable last name. "Stupid voice" comics still alive who are active in the Jim Belushi era limits things pretty sharply, and Everett has done stuff with BG recently."

Another Redditor followed up with: "It definitely seems to be Bobcat, but why was Jerry SO agitated? Was it really that comment from 1995? That's some ancient history! Jerry said there was a more recent "article in the paper" where the person in question made a veiled jab at him. I was curious and searched for it, but couldn't find any jabs — veiled or otherwise."

Seinfeld's Beef With Comedians Might Not Be Limited To Goldthwait

Larry King had a feud with Seinfeld, and Anthony Jeselnik as well, as he once talked about how furious his comedy made him on The Joe Rogan Experience. Jeselnik recently tweeted though, "After my own investigation, I am pleased to announce he wasn't talking about me."

The Seinfeld And Goldthwait Feud Is Far From Over

While Goldthwait's comedy and acting days are over, he is still known as a director. He recently gave an interview with The Baltimore Sun, taking another hard shot at Jerry, which might be the reason why Jerry censored his name. Goldthwait said to the outlet "I watched that Jerry Seinfeld movie about stand-up (Comedian). I don't know, man. Sitting around with a bunch of guys, slaving over a new 'clapper' joke? For God's sake. People are gonna think all comics are crazy, because here's a guy with $450 million, bummed out because he can't get laughs at an Improv. Crazy! 'Dude, if it bums you out, don't go on stage. You've got $450 million. You can pay these people to clap,"

We can't really side with either of them, they are both dearly beloved comedy legends after all.
