Pete Davidson first became well-known during his time as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. His comedic skills and acting talent made him a stand-out on the legendary show.
During his engagement to Ariana Grande, interest in Davidson increased significantly. It was during this time that he made his debut appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Over the years, the two have shared many funny moments together. Fallon even poked fun at Davidson's dating history in a monologue of his.
However, one of Davidson's interviews with Fallon was so awkward and ridden with profanity, the host told Davidson he was "fired" from the show.
Pete Once Joked To Jimmy That He Is 'Lonely' And Talked About Living With His Mom
In 2019, Davidson made an appearance on The Tonight Show and told Fallon he was trying to find a new name for his man cave.
"So I was calling it the ‘man cave,’ but the Mulaneys [John and Annamarie] told me that if I call it that, they will no longer be my friend," Davidson said. "So now I call it the Basement, like the Ohio State University."
"It’s the ‘the’ that’s important," he added.
Davidson also talked about living with his mother, explaining that she bought their home together. He joked that he took the "basement" apartment where he planned on installing an arcade. Davidson said that among the games he wanted to play was Mortal Kombat 11.
"Well, they are paying me to be here to talk about it," he said laughing. "I’m trying to get a helicopter to Coachella."
Davidson also sported a Mortal Kombat t-shirt and sneakers. However, he said that he actually did enjoy playing the game. He even shared some of his favorite characters with Fallon.
"There’s this guy that I really like to kill in it because he looks like a real doucheb**," Davidson said. "This guy Johnny Cage, so he does splits and punches you in the d***, it’s his special move. And he just looks like everybody I grew up with in Staten Island, so I just kill that dude."
While talking about the character, Davidson also joked that he is "lonely."
"Also he has like a hot daughter, which is like weird because I’m lonely and she’s like not real. So there’s that in the video game as well, sexual confusion," he laughed.
Davidson also talked about the time he paid for Kid Cudi's birthday celebration.
"I’m like texting my touring agent, ‘Yo you gotta book more shows,’" he said. "‘S**** getting real over here.’"
Pete Told Jimmy About The Time He And Machine Gun Kelly Fell Off The 'SNL' Stage
As his celebrity has grown, Davidson has made many friends in the entertainment industry. One of those friends is Machine Gun Kelly.
Kelly was once the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. His appearance got a lot of attention when he fell off the stage trying to pick up Davidson during the end credits.
When Davidson appeared on The Tonight Show in 2021, he poked some fun at Kelly while explaining the incident to Fallon.
"He bruised his coccyx that week. If you don't know what a coccyx is, it's the bone in your a**," Davidson explained. "He couldn't walk or sit. He had a tushie pillow. It was just really cool to see the most gangster thug dude I know just put a little tushie pillow down and sit. It's just like, Megan Fox is right there and he's sitting on his little tushie pillow."
Davidson insisted that while Kelly wanted to do something silly and crazy at the end of the show, he was advising against it.
"He got really excited and he went to pick me up, and he forgot he had a bruised coccyx," Davidson explained. "So he went to pick me up and he couldn't go up, so he just started to slowly tilt back."
Davidson and Kelly even spoke to each other as it happened, because the moment occurred at such a slow pace.
"It was such a slow fall we had time for him to go, 'Oh no!' And I went, 'You're a f****** moron,'" he joked. "It was that slow. I got the whole line out."
Pete Was Swearing So Much During His First 'Fallon' Appearance, He Was Jokingly 'Fired' During The Interview
When Davidson made his debut appearance on The Tonight Show in 2018, he was engaged to Ariana Grande. The engagement made headlines and caused Davidson's celebrity profile to increase significantly.
During the chat with Fallon, Davidson gushed about Grande and their relationship. However, things started to get weird when Fallon suggested the two get married on The Tonight Show.
"Why do people care? It's very weird. It's weird 'cause like the president's like trying to pardon himself and he's like f****** a porn star," Davidson said, referring to Trump's alleged affair with Stormy Daniels.
While the audience responded with some decent laughs, Fallon seemed to get very uncomfortable. Davidson continued to use profanity throughout the rest of the interview. This caused Fallon to tell Davidson that he couldn't use words like that on television and jokingly "fired" him from the show.
"No it's fine, I'll go on Seth [Meyers' show], I don't give a s*** ... I actually have Seth's number, I don't have your number," Davidson said.
"And you're never gonna get it either," Fallon responded to a shocked reaction from the audience.
Obviously, the exchange didn't prevent Davidson from being invited back to the show in the future. Fallon even poked fun at Davidson's dating history during his monologue at The Museum Gala at the American Museum of Natural History in 2022.
"Isn't the Lucy exhibit incredible," Fallon said. "All we know for sure is that it's a 3.2-million-year-old skeleton, she was under four feet tall and she dated Pete Davidson."
