The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has had a lot of controversy lately. The show's decline started back in 2017 when The Late Show with Stephen Colbert kept topping the late-night ratings. This was pre-toxic workplace allegations, and before Jimmy Fallon was slammed for making his guests uncomfortable. Still, it was that year he did his "best" interview, gushing about The Bachelor with Elijah Wood.
The Lord of the Rings star came on the show to promote his then-new film. But he and Jimmy ended up fanboying over The Bachelor the entire segment. It even got awkward at one point when Elijah discovered the host's actual level of "investment" in the series. Jimmy also nearly forgot to ask his guest about his film. Here's why fans called it Jimmy's best show anyway.

Fans Said Jimmy Fallon And Elijah Wood Fanboying Over The Bachelor Was The Host's Best Show
Elijah Wood Assured Jimmy Fallon That Nick Viall Was Genuine On The Bachelor
At the start of the interview, Jimmy Fallon asked Elijah Wood about his real-life friendship with season 21 Bachelor, Nick Viall. The actor confirmed that his photo with the reality star during the screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is "real". In the picture, Elijah and Nick were alongside their mutual friend, Kyle, who introduced the two of them. It's a crossover no one saw coming.
Wood didn't know Nick was previously on The Bachelorette when they started hanging out.
When Nick was cast as The Bachelor, the Bookworm actor freaked out, just as Jimmy did when he found out about their friendship. But Elijah's friendship with Nick didn't stop the host from doubting the show's authenticity. "But it's real, right? He's looking for love?" Jimmy asked, to which the guest responded, "It's real... Yes, he is." Elijah then vouched for his friend, saying:
"Here's the thing about Nick... I think a lot of people question whether he is real or if that is really him on the show in the way that he's presenting himself. And that is him. He's a very genuine individual. He's got a lot of integrity. I can unequivocally say that."
Like most reality TV skeptics, Jimmy was surprised by the fact, citing suspicious moments like Nick crying on the show. Elijah then revealed that he started watching The Bachelor because of his friend. "I started watching the show because I'm so curious, I'd never seen the show in my life," he shared. "Because I know Nick, I watch the show every Monday." Elijah and Jimmy instantly bonded over their obsession.
The actor went on to wow the audience by mentioning Corrine Olympios' famous "platinum vagine" line. Viewers were so entertained by their chat, that one said: "This is the best Jimmy Fallon interview in such a long time." Someone even suggested that the host was perfect for Elijah's friend group. "They have such good rapport! I think it's mostly down to them just getting each other pretty well so they flow well together :)" they wrote. "I bet Jimmy would easily fit into the Elijah, Nick & Kyle friend group!"
Elijah Wood and Jimmy Fallon think it's "crazy" that The Bachelor ladies fall in love and cry over their "relationships" with the same man after "it's just been three days".

Elijah Wood Was Disappointed Jimmy Fallon Wasn't As "Invested" In The Bachelor As He Was
Elijah Wood Caught Jimmy Fallon Missing An Important Bachelor Moment
As their Bachelor discussion went on, Elijah Wood caught Jimmy Fallon missing out on an episode of the show. After the former mentioned that the season was just down to three ladies, the host said, "I missed last week's episode." The guest was speechless. Imagine the let-down after they both claimed they were "invested" in the series. "That was homecoming... I can't believe I'm having this conversation," Elijah said.
Elijah Wood and Jimmy Fallon hadn't seen each other in three years before their Bachelor geek-out.
But after all their predictions about the show, Nick Viall ended up doing after The Bachelor season 21:
- March 2017 (a month after Wood and Fallon's interview): Nick proposed to Vanessa Grimaldi
- August 2017: Nick and Vanessa ended their engagement
- Sometime after the show: Nick started dating Natalie Joy, who's 20 years his junior.
- 2023: Nick and Natalie got engaged
- 2024: Nick and Natalie welcomed their first child, River Rose
In the end, Jimmy's wish for Nick, that he "finds love" did happen. The host also redeemed himself when he talked about the show's then-host, Chris Harrison, whom the actor didn't seem too familiar with. "He just busts in the room," said Jimmy. "Sometimes he's cas, sometimes he's in a suit, sometimes he's got a crooked tie."
He added: "It doesn't matter. The man walks in, he owns the place... He pops out of nowhere." Jimmy then convinced Elijah he was just as invested when he reenacted Chris' sudden appearances throughout the show. The latter couldn't stop laughing.

Jimmy Fallon Almost Forgot To Promote Elijah Wood's Movie Because of The Bachelor
Jimmy Fallon And Elijah Wood Couldn't Stop Talking About The Bachelor
Later in the interview, Jimmy Fallon remembered to promote Elijah Wood's then-new Netflix film, I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore. Despite the pivot from The Bachelor, the actor kept fans laughing when he described the movie to the host. Elijah was bleeped when he said the main character goes through "an existential crisis; she doesn't feel connected to anybody and she sort of feels like the world's full of a**holes."
Wood went on to give a synopsis, to which Fallon replied, "But if Nick chooses Corrine..."
And just like that, they were back to their Bachelor banter again. "Can you imagine?" asked Elijah, adding that "collectively we would lose our minds" if Nick made that decision. Jimmy said he'd "rip" his 48-inch flat-screen TV that's mounted on the wall. The Afterparty alum also agreed with Jimmy that Corrine wasn't "in it" for love. But then he admitted, "She's good TV."
Elijah even said Corrine should get a spin-off. While she didn't get one, she returned to Bachelor in Paradise for its fourth season after she was eliminated in week 8 of The Bachelor season 21. The interview ended with the actor telling Jimmy he didn't have spoilers for him because Nick would get a "$5 million fine" if he spilled anything about the show.
After The Bachelor's season 21 finale, Fallon had The Roots reenact Nick's real scenes for the Tonight Show's Supercut segment.
