Jimmy Fallon is known for his inability to deliver jokes with a straight face or play it cool while his guests act up, and it happened once again while he was sitting down with Matt Damon.

As serious an actor as Matt Damon is, he can't resist a good joke, and decided to drag another late-night talk show host while chatting with Fallon.

Here's what happened when Jimmy Fallon couldn't keep a straight face as Matt Damon bashed Jimmy Kimmel, how Kimmel responded, and where the two Jimmys and their shared guest stand today.

Jimmy Fallon Couldn't Keep A Straight Face When Matt Damon Bashed Jimmy Kimmel

Matt Damon has had plenty of celebrity feuds, but he still seems to be generally well-liked in Hollywood. Damon has appeared on all manner of shows, from Saturday Night Live to talk shows with Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Kelly Clarkson, and more — including both the Jimmys. Unfortunately for Matt, one slip-up on Jimmy Fallon's show got him in hot water with Jimmy Kimmel.

As is usually the case with Matt Damon, he appeared on Jimmy Fallon's talk show and threw some joking shade at Jimmy Kimmel. In a clip of the show, Matt was chatting with Jimmy Fallon, who mentioned that he had seen Matt on talk shows such as Jimmy Kimmel's.

As he delivered the line, "You've been on like Jimmy Kimmel, I've seen that...", Fallon looked down and appeared to be resisting a smile.

Matt denied being on Kimmel's show, saying, "Oh no, no, no you haven't. I haven't... I haven't."

Jimmy replied, "Well... maybe one day," which seemed to be barely concealing a laugh. Matt elaborated that all Fallon had to do was call him once, and he came on the show. In contrast, he seemed to hint, Jimmy Kimmel had "not called. At all."

Matt concluded with, "That's how you host a talk show," which made Jimmy Fallon crack up. Fallon warned Damon that he was going to hurt Kimmel's feelings, but Matt didn't seem to mind.

Granted, the clip where Jimmy Kimmel replied to Matt Damon's shade was from Jimmy Kimmel Live circa 2016, but the two Jimmys and Matt Damon had a long history even before that.

Their history of throwing shade was probably the reason why Jimmy Fallon couldn't keep a straight face during

Jimmy Kimmel Shaded Matt Damon Right Back (With Class)

In a hilarious twist, Jimmy Kimmel dragged Matt Damon right back — without failing to promote the very movie Matt appeared on Fallon's show to promote. Jimmy Kimmel spliced a clip of Matt on Jimmy Fallon's show with his own jokes, where he told his audience that Matt Damon's new movie wasn't worth seeing, and that he wouldn't be watching the Jason Bourne movie.

After cutting away from Damon and Fallon's conversation, Kimmel then stated deadpan that Matt wouldn't be coming on his show that night either.

The footage cut to Matt Damon, seemingly backstage in a green room, shaking his head and talking at the TV, where Jimmy was talking to him. It all ended with much laughter and applause from the audience, but some viewers might have been miffed.

Why the song and dance about Jimmy Kimmel snubbing Matt Damon? It all ties back to the original running gag — when Jimmy Kimmel quipped at the end of one of his shows that he wanted to apologize to Matt Damon because "we ran out of time."

In reality, Matt wasn't slated to appear on the show — and was not waiting backstage — but the off-the-cuff joke began an entire "feud" that has lasted ages. Jimmy later admitted he just grabbed a name out of thin air for the joke, but he seemed to have picked the wrong celebrity name. Matt Damon isn't one to take jokes lying down, and the whole thing grew for years afterward.

Matt Damon Is A Jokester (And So Are The Jimmys)

After Kimmel's shading-but-promoting quip on his show, does that mean all is well between him and Damon? It would seem so. Over the years, Matt has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live at least thirty times, starting in 2006 and ranging through to 2023.

In contrast, Matt has only appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon a handful of times — four, to be exact. Matt didn't even appear on Jimmy Fallon until long after he had sat down with Jimmy Kimmel multiple times.

Matt Damon also took part in a very R-rated skit with Sarah Silverman in 2009 that dissed Jimmy Kimmel once again. Sarah went on Jimmy Kimmel Live and, during her interview, had the team run a clip of her singing a song with Matt Damon about the two... being intimate together. At the end of the video, as Sarah is signing off, Matt Damon pipes in with, "we're out of time."

The hilarious video was meant to be Sarah's breakup message to Jimmy, but afterward, Kimmel didn't respond except to say congratulations. He then cut to a commercial.

Of course, the entire skit was in jest, just like Matt's joke about Jimmy Kimmel to Jimmy Fallon. Not only that, but as viewers pointed out, Jimmy Kimmel successfully razzed Matt Damon while still promoting his film.

Only a true friend would drop a diss and promo in the same skit, right?

Plus, as fans know, Jimmy and Matt have a long-running feud that both continue to contribute to. While it might be a ploy at continued relevance, the fact remains that Matt Damon has had many movies come out that need a bit of promotion. Keeping the "feud" alive and well means both of them get more attention and comments from fans... and probably moviegoers, too.
